ROLE: Manager of Audit – Africa 

We are now looking for an experienced and qualified Manager of Audit to provide a systematic and disciplined approach to the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance procedures in order to create value and improve our operations. The manager will be a member of a worldwide audit team that will assist in facilitating organizational responsibility and integrity through the existing audit service lines (i.e., assurance services, management consulting, and fraud investigations).

This leader manages and oversees organizational accountability and integrity by auditing business controls, the accuracy of financial records, and the efficiency of Compassion operations, as well as examining departmental records and conducting interviews with individuals to provide assurance about ministry operations, including compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the designated professional employees on a daily basis. This includes hiring, disciplining, and terminating employees, as well as mentoring, performance management, assigning, checking, and approving work to meet department goals. The incumbent will ensure that department tasks are met based on senior management oversight while adhering to established processes, organizational strategy, and department norms, and staying within the approved budget.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to

  • Keeps a close relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a continuous witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a gracious, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people both inside and outside of Compassion, and faithfully prays for Compassion’s ministry.
  • Acts as an advocate to increase awareness of children’s issues. Recognizes Christ’s mission to safeguard children.
  • Commits to and prioritizes child protection issues in all ministry decision-making, tasks, and activities. Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of
  • Conduct requires all employees to follow all behavioral expectations. Reports any concerns about child abuse, neglect, or exploitation through Compassion’s internal reporting process and supports proper responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Provides leadership, planning, and consultation to subordinates, executives, and peer management in the successful alignment of assigned department resources to ensure achievement of operational priorities and initiatives, as well as integrating priorities within organizational strategies to ensure that the department’s purpose is met.
  • Contributes to or creates and manages the yearly budget and departmental spending, assuring accountability for on-time delivery of deliverables based on department objectives and other Compassion requirements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and board regulations.
  • Establishes goals and objectives, coaches and supervises performance, including discipline, motivation, and annual evaluations; fosters continuous learning and development that improves individual performance and organizational capabilities.
  • Partners with ministry leaders, managers, and other audit and risk management professionals to design and oversee audits that analyze supporting documents for Compassion activities in order to ensure organizational accountability integrity, and operational excellence.
  • Professional and informed recommendations on crucial decisions affecting Compassion’s standards, controls, procedures, and processes.

  • Manages one or more broadly homogeneous teams; modifies department plans and priorities to achieve short-term service and/or operational goals
  • Oversees at least two professional staff and/or Senior Auditors.
  • Basic computer abilities, such as MS Office, accounting software, and databases, are required.

Qualifications for the Position

Faith

  • Has a personal relationship with Christ Jesus.

Culture

  • Accountable for promoting, upholding, and acting in the basic “Cultural Behaviors” of Compassion in all internal and external communication and relationships.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a closely related field

Working Knowledge

  • 5–10 years of professional experience in audit, finance, risk management, governance, or a related subject involving international, cross-cultural operations.

Certifications and licenses

  • The Institute of Internal Auditors’ Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification, as well as equivalent qualifications such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA), The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and so on.

Language

  • It is necessary to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. The audit manager must be able to build positive and trusted cross-cultural connections.
