POSITION: Technical Editor/Writer

Project Overview  

Tetra Tech is proud to announce the awarding of the five-year USAID Power Africa Empower West Africa (EWA) Activity. This initiative builds upon a decade of successful collaboration with Power Africa, with the objective of addressing energy poverty in the region. By 2029, EWA aims to provide six million new electricity connections, secure financial closure for 2,500 megawatts of new generation capacity, construct 1,500 kilometers of new power lines, and facilitate the sale of 40,000 productive use of energy (PUE) devices.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the role of Technical Editor/Writer for the Power Africa Empower West Africa Activity. This full-time position will entail providing technical writing, coordination, and capacity-building support for the initiative.

The successful candidate will be responsible for distilling complex information into clear, engaging narratives while ensuring compliance with all Power Africa reporting standards. This role involves close collaboration with Tetra Tech’s home office communications team, regional communications specialists, and project leaders. Employment is contingent upon approval from USAID.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, consolidate, edit, and finalize high-quality deliverables that align with Power Africa requirements, gathering inputs from various teams across the West Africa region to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Collaborate with the technical team to draft and edit reports, including assessments, studies, and trip reports.
  • Contribute significantly to the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Work with technical teams and communications specialists to compile, edit, and validate weekly progress reports.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for data collection and integration into EWA deliverables.
  • Develop and manage tracking and reporting tools to enhance process efficiency.
  • Ensure that all deliverables meet Power Africa standards and adhere to production schedules in order to meet client deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with USAID branding and quality assurance standards across all reports.
  • Train team members on reporting guidelines and best practices, and develop user-friendly templates and checklists to improve reporting quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in fields such as English, Communications, Journalism, International Development, Global Studies, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Energy-related disciplines.
  • A minimum of five years of technical writing, editing, or communications experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to edit a range of technical publications and public communications (e.g., reports, proposals, articles, presentations, blogs, and social media).
  • Proven ability to adhere to client-specific style and branding guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Strong multitasking, analytical, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and engaging narratives.
  • Proven experience in managing client expectations.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing or editing content related to energy sector issues.
  • Familiarity with USAID reporting requirements and branding standards.
  • Experience working with international and remote teams using email, cloud applications, and platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Professional proficiency in French.
