Job Description

The Greater Rural Opportunity for Women 2 (GROW2) Project is being run by the Mennonite Economic Development Association (MEDA) with money from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). It will last for five years, from 2021 to 2026, and will build on what was done to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges to food security.

The project is building on the momentum created by the GAC-funded GROW project (2012-2019) to reach a total of 40,000 smallholder women farmers and business owners. This includes making sure that the results achieved by the 23,368 women farmers and business owners who were helped by the GROW project will last.

The project will help women farmers, entrepreneurs, and agribusinesses in northern Ghana become more financially and socially independent. It will do this by increasing agricultural productivity, improving the business environment, and promoting gender equality in families, communities, and certain value chains (soybeans, groundnuts, and vegetables grown during the dry season).

The Project is looking for translators who can take audio pieces in five local languages (Dagbani, Likpakpa, Dagaare, Sissala, and Gonja) and write them in English while keeping the original meaning, format, and tone.

As a translator, you have to listen and fully understand the context of the information you are provided. You also have to use specialist dictionaries and translation tools, as well as proofread your finished work. To be good at this job, you should have a good eye for detail and be proficient in at least one of the local languages asked for (Dagbani, Likpakpa, Dagaare, Sissala, or Gonja) as well as written English.
