Learning and Documentation Officer at Ghana Federation of the Disability Organisations (GFD)

GFD seeks the services of experienced and self-driven persons to lead this innovative and ambitious project hence the vacancy for the following position: Learning and Documentation Officer

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager, the Learning and Documentation Officer will help with a number of activities related to communications, documentation, learning, and innovation.

These activities include communicating about behavior change, leading GFD’s communications with internal and external stakeholders, meeting GFD’s communications and documentation targets, making the GFD and We Can Work programme brand more visible and well-known, and highlighting best practices.

The role also helps organize and run successful brainstorming and “Think-Tank” sessions around a specific problem, which leads to the creation of products, materials, and pilot projects.

Key Responsibilities

Communication to change people’s behaviors; creating and managing content for print and digital media (social media, website).
  • Develop and share content with the main goal of changing people’s thoughts about including people with disabilities and promoting the brand.
  • Make sure that all information and communication can be found and understood by everyone.
  • Help with communication about We Can Work on social media outlets and the website in your area and around the world.
Manage communications, branding, press, media, and PR connected to the program.
  • Through the communication strategy and plan, make sure that there is regular contact with all stakeholders and channels.
  • Make sure that the We Can Work brand is used correctly on all goods that go out into the world (Word documents, ppts, banners, T-shirts, etc.).
  • PR and advertising goals should be met.
  • Make sure that all information has gone through the DTP (Desktop Publishing) process, looks good, and uses language that is in line with the UNCRPD.
  • Make sure the rules for donor visibility are followed.
  • Make sure you have good relationships with the media so that knowledge can be spread in a useful way.
  • When asked, write news releases.

Support the facilitation of Co-creation, Brainstorm and “Think-Tank” activities
  • Help plan and run co-creation processes and learning events around specific problems and an agreed-upon learning agenda related to the We Can Work program and including people with disabilities.
  • Support other brainstorming and “Think-Tank” activities by making sure that creative facilitation techniques and interactive methods are used to drive these processes in a systematic and effective way.
The creation of goods based on knowledge, as well as communication and resource materials
  • Help create content for the quarterly Disability Inclusion Insight Briefs 3.
  • Help build knowledge products that record good practices, lessons learned, and key resources to help Young Africa Works and other partner organizations in the country including people with disabilities.

Help the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team keep track of qualitative data that shows how the system has changed and what its effects have been.
  • Document stories of change in different ways, such as in print, video clips, or photo narratives, making sure that all products have good visual material and are easy to use.

Skills or Experience Needed

  • Degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, foreign relations, international development, or a similar field
  • At least three years of work experience in communications, public relations, or a similar area.
  • Experience writing blogs, case studies, summary reports, and stories of change for technical readers and/or other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to turn complicated information into interesting message content.
  • Proven understanding of how to design with people in mind
  • They know how to work with digital tools and devices and how to communicate digitally.
  • Strong team player who wants to help make interesting material. Need photography skills.
  • Must be able to work with little direction and be able to think critically and solve problems on their own.
