POSITION: Program Manager

The Program Manager for WASH and Climate Change is responsible for spearheading the integration efforts, and this role is essential for progressing WaterAid’s strategic goal of attaining universal and sustainable WASH access while incorporating climate resilience into every initiative. This position is responsible for the design, execution, and management of WASH initiatives, guaranteeing their expansion, effectiveness, and consistency with WaterAid’s strategic objectives and national climate adaptation targets.

The manager offers technical direction, promoting the incorporation of climate-resilient WASH practices and supervising program outcomes, including budget oversight, to enhance impact and resource efficiency. Emphasizing innovation and sustainability, the manager seeks opportunities to expand interventions, enhance systems, and tackle climate-related issues in at-risk communities. Furthermore, the Program Manager promotes sector-wide influence by shaping policy, enhancing capabilities, recording and disseminating lessons learned, and collaborating with crucial stakeholders. By aligning WASH and climate strategies, the position guarantees that WaterAid provides transformative, scalable, and climate-resilient solutions to meet the needs of the most vulnerable communities.

Duties:

Strategic Supervision and Policy Coordination:

  • Guide the creation and execution of WASH and Climate Change initiatives and projects, guaranteeing the provision of sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient services.
  • Offer technical guidance on enhancing WASH systems and adapting to climate change, encompassing sector evaluations, strategic planning, funding, and consistency with climate policies.
  • Provide strategic perspectives for creating and assessing the Country Strategy to ensure that WASH and climate change initiatives align with national objectives, WaterAid’s vision, and international climate targets.

Management of Programs and Projects:

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of WASH and Climate Change initiatives and projects, guaranteeing adherence to WaterAid’s standards, values, and donor stipulations.
  • Guarantee that projects attain excellent technical quality by following national best practices, climate-resilient methods, and WaterAid’s Program Quality Standards.
  • Incorporate overarching themes like Safeguarding, Child Protection, Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, and adaptation to climate change throughout every stage of projects and team activities.
  • Enhance and uphold systems for monitoring project and program performance, guaranteeing ongoing improvement, incorporation of climate metrics, and prompt reporting.

Leadership of Teams and Management of Talent:

  • Engage and oversee implementation partners, cultivating robust collaborations to effectively execute WASH and Climate Change initiatives.
  • Establish and nurture connections with essential stakeholders, such as governmental bodies, contributors, private sector participants, and community influencers, prioritizing climate-resilient projects.
  • Create and execute capacity-building programs for sector stakeholders and partner organizations, ensuring they align with WaterAid’s climate and sustainability goals.

Collaboration and Partnership Management:

  • Engage and oversee implementation partners, cultivating robust collaborations to achieve successful WASH and Climate Change initiatives.

Qualifications, Experience, and Essential Skills Required

  • A university degree or professional credential in a related area such as Public Health, Social Science, Project Management, or Development Studies.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in project planning, community involvement and mobilization, with a strong grasp of the project management cycle.
  • Skills in observation, active listening, and analysis with the capability to make sound judgments.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and the capacity to engage successfully with various groups.
  • An active strategy towards obstacles, aimed at attaining outcomes and executing solutions effectively.
  • Skills in presentation, facilitation, and communication
  • Proficient in computer usage and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Teams.
  • Proficiency in English and the local dialects of the Upper West Region in Ghana, promoting community interaction and inclusiveness.
