Position Summary

GTI is in charge of growing commerce in Ghanaian agricultural products, namely those in specific product lines (cowpeas, cashews, groundnuts, maize, mangoes, pineapples, shea, soybeans, and market vegetables). GTI is presently looking for a representative to assist in promoting these goods in local and regional markets. The position is mostly concerned with sales. The selected candidate will be expected to work primarily and exhaustively in creating sales contacts for Ghanaian businesses and aiding them in sales execution.

Moreover, The salesperson should be self-motivated and create their buyer contacts. Other members of the GTI team will contribute market leads when available, but this should not be expected. The representative will be given ongoing lists of products that are available on a one-time and long-term basis. In addition, the representative is expected to generate leads in the target markets and then locate Ghanaian suppliers to follow up on those prospects. The representative may be expected to guide transactions from start to finish, or just to offer contact information to the sales teams of GTI organizations.

This position is highly deal-orientated. The winning candidate will attend the interview with concrete strategies on how they will improve sales of Ghanaian products in the domestic and especially regional markets.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

The Local and Regional Market Representative will:

  • Act on information provided by the GTI sales team on products available and identify purchasers for such products.
  • Decide requirements (labeling, certificates, etc.) for each product in each market and decide if the criteria are satisfied, and if not what would be required to meet them.
  • Buyer requirements may differ and should be logged into the CRM tracking tool.
  • Actively sell Ghanaian products to buyers in the local and regional markets.
  • File a brief weekly report on what activities are to be completed in that week and file a quick weekly assessment of progress made. These reports will be logged into a CRM tracking tool.
  • Log all transaction progress and finish information into a CRM tracking tool.
  • Conduct any such actions as specified by the Ghanaian sales team and lead that can result in the sales of Ghanaian products in the target markets.
  • Identify new representatives in target markets to assist in the sale of Ghanaian products.

Required Qualifications or Experience

  • Experience working in a mid-to-high-level Ghanaian and/or regional private-sector agricultural sales organization.
  • Should have a solid understanding of how local and regional agricultural product markets operate, as well as a large local and regional network of contacts.
  • The ability to speak effectively in English and to use basic sales development software.
  • Knowledge of French would be advantageous.
  • Diligent, self-starter who can work with little supervision.

Deliverables

  • Weekly reports are issued at the start and end of each week.
  • Transactions were assisted and recorded in the sales monitoring tool.

Reporting and Location

This position will be based in Ghana and may need pre-approved trips to other regional markets or within Ghana to create and follow up on sales leads. A selected GTI staff person and/or the Chief of Party will report to the regional market representative.
