Position Title: In-Country Coordinator
Role’s Purpose:
DAI is looking for an In-Country Coordinator (ICC) to serve as the evaluation team’s representative in Ghana and oversee data collection subcontractors during data collection planning, training, and fieldwork (data collection in Côte d’Ivoire will be under the control of a different ICC). The in-country coordinator will collaborate closely with the data collection subcontractors to ensure data quality throughout the evaluation. The LOE for this position is projected to be 30 days.
Objectives and responsibilities:
- Assess the applicability of survey instruments and data collection techniques for local circumstances.
- Provide quality assurance and oversight for the data collection firm, including training, spot inspections in the field, reporting deviations in data collection methodology to DAI in weekly updates, and encouraging communication between the firm and DAI.
- Provides technical and quality assurance guidance to social and ecological data collection partners during preparation, training, and data collection.
- Collaborates closely with data collection subcontractors to organize and oversee data collection; ensures smooth logistical coordination across social and ecological data collection partners; Ensures that the data collection subcontractors’ organizational structures are adequate for managing and implementing data collection in accordance with protocol.
- Ensures that the data collection subcontractors have recruited and hired qualified staff to manage and conduct the data gathering.
- Participates in training and ensures that the fieldwork schedule and team composition are optimized to provide high-quality data.
- Monitors data gathering in the field to ensure the quality of survey implementation.
- Visits interview sites at random, participate in meetings with data collection teams to assess concerns and troubleshoot collaboratively, and offers regular input to the contractor.
- As needed, assist with the in-country ethical assessment and approval procedure.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in a social science area, ideally in rural livelihoods, agriculture, ecology, forest conservation, or cocoa-agroforestry A higher education is preferred.
- Previous management of large-scale social survey fieldwork in West Africa, preferably involving assessment of cocoa-agroforestry or reforestation operations on cocoa landscapes
- Previous experience hiring, training, and supervising field supervisors and enumerators
- Previous experience managing field logistics, timetables, and equipment
- Fieldwork management experience with ecological data gathering
- English language proficiency
