POSITION: Manager – SHES (Africa North)

About the Role

We are looking for Orica’s next Manager – SHES (Africa North), who will be stationed in Accra, Ghana. This critical function helps shape the future of our workplace health and safety standards, major incident risk management, industry standards, environmental sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.

As the SHES Manager, you will lead a dedicated and diverse team to uphold Orica’s high standards in SHES (Safety, Health, Environment, and Security) practices, guaranteeing regulatory compliance for our office and site-based operations.

What will you be doing?

  • Manage the Africa North SHES team to deliver and align all behaviours with Orica’s Charter Values, Purpose, and Strategy.
  • Work with ISPE and Regional SHES to match with the Group SHES plan and local legislation.
  • Develop, provide, and continually improve SH&E KPIs for line management and the SH&E support staff to identify areas of focus and deliverables.\
  • Ensure site compliance with legislative regulations and nominated industry standards, which collectively constitute the site’s license to operate;
  • Implement rigorous incident reporting and investigation systems and processes to identify direct and root causes, and enable the identification and monitoring of corrective actions that address underlying causes.
  • Ensure that an emergency response team is prepared for scenarios up to and including Enterprise Level Risk events, maintain business continuity planning, and coordinate with the Corporate Crisis Management Teams.
  • Ensure that security infrastructure and staff are in place and operational;
  • Ensure that health management initiatives are implemented and effective.
  • Effective management of environmental and sustainability issues;
  • Manage and report on the SHES function budget.

What will you bring?

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience, preferably in the mining, oil and gas, or engineering industries.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a SHES Specialist, or 3-5 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Expert knowledge of event investigation and root cause analysis
  • Proven expertise in Swedish safety and health regulatory systems, as well as positive relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management and systems, with additional expertise in safety, health, process safety, and auditing/assurance.
  • Knowledge of the explosives sector will be highly regarded.
  • International experience would be greatly valued.
  • Experience in training people will be highly valued.

Your Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree or diploma qualification in safety, health, engineering, or science.
  • Qualification in environmental management would be well-regarded.
  • Certification from SHES regulatory and auditing authorities.
