POSITION: Oxygen Plant Technician

About This Position
Operating the site oxygen plant safely in line with OEM guidance and specifications to deliver oxygen to the Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) circuit to improve plant recovery.
In this position, you will
Operation of an Oxygen Plant
- Under the general supervision of the Senior Metallurgist, operate the oxygen plant.
- Follow established protocols to complete supporting operational activities (such as reporting, checklist completion, and so on) linked with oxygen plant operations.
- Daily, monitor and record the working performance of the oxygen plant, and make necessary changes to ensure optimal tons, flow, and purity of oxygen.
- Ensure that the oxygen plant’s various units are operating within the proper operational parameters.
- Regulate oxygen flow to achieve finer bubbles in the oxygen-fed CIL tanks.
- Ensure that the oxygen purity is at least 92%.
- Ascertain that the booster pump is securely fastened and delivers optimal pressures and flow.
- Complete the operator log sheet and checklist under the review periods.
- Assist the Senior Metallurgist in debugging oxygen production delivery variations.
- Clean the compressor and air-drying cooling systems thoroughly.
Repair and maintenance
- Inspect the various oxygen plant units or equipment on a weekly and monthly basis, documenting and filing the results.
- Follow specific instructions to carry out task preparations and aid with basic maintenance, repairs, and replacement of problematic components.
- In advance, notify the Senior Metallurgist of any mandatory or regulatory third-party inspections that must be performed under regulatory norms.
- Conduct oxygen lance servicing and/or changeouts in the vicinity of CIL tanks.
- Inspect all measuring equipment in the oxygen plant and replace any that is malfunctioning.
- Assist the Senior Metallurgist in identifying oxygen plant components and parts for scheduled changeouts.
- Ensure that an appropriate supply of component spares is available for scheduled changeouts.
- Check for potential leaks from the oxygen plant units and pipelines to the delivery terminals on the CIL tanks and report them for quick repair.
Health, security, and the environment
- Applying Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environment systems, policies, and protocols, delivering mandated outcomes, and/or providing support services.
- Maintain a high level of health, safety, and environmental consciousness.
- Any deviation from approved health and safety precautions and processes should be reported to the Senior Metallurgist.
- Inspect the oxygen plant to check for and identify any potential hazards.
- Adherence to Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards is severely enforced.
- Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices by wearing mandated protective clothes and suitable PPE when and where required.
- Reporting and addressing dangerous acts or circumstances.
- Participate actively in safety meetings and encourage safe working practices.
- Following established SOPs, STPs, work policies, and security procedures to the letter.
- Actively engaged in hazard identification and correction.
- Environmental spills must be reported immediately, and necessary measures must be taken to prevent pollution.
- All safety meetings must be attended.

- The position is at the Akyem mine site.

- Physical Demands: The employee must climb stairs, walk, and stand while performing job activities.
- The employee is occasionally subjected to noise levels above 85 dB, as well as fumes, high temperatures, sharp edges, dust, pinch points, vibration, and slippery surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Depending on the working conditions, mandatory PPE such as a helmet, goggles, high-visibility clothes, safety harness, ear plugs, and dust mask are required.
Checklist of Your Education, Skills, and Experience
Formal Education (including Professional Registration):
- Metalliferous City and Guilds Certificates II & III.
- Diploma/HND/Degree Certificate in mineral processing/Chemical/Materials Engineering or a related field will be advantageous.
Additional Information
- Working knowledge of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) and/or Liquid Oxygen (LOX) plants.
- Understanding of industrial air compressors.
- Working understanding of pressured vessels.
Experience
- A minimum of two years of experience operating an oxygen plant in a gold processing plant or a similar setting is required.
