SOS Children’s Villages GHANA is a child welfare organization that offers consistent Family-Like Care (FLC) to children in need. We also provide social services to at-risk families through our Family Strengthening Projects. We currently operate from four locations: Tema, Asiakwa, Kumasi, and Tamale, with the National Office in Accra. Applications are solicited from adequately qualified and enthusiastic individuals for appointment as:

1. LIFE AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OFFICER

The Livelihood/Economic Empowerment Programme Officer provides technical expertise to community-based partners, economic empowerment organizations, youth, and caregivers in the field of livelihoods (also known as economic empowerment). He/she will collaborate closely with other players to create sustainable livelihoods at the individual, family, and community levels.

The Livelihood/Economic Empowerment Programme Officer is intended to help caregivers, youth, and communities develop anticipatory, absorptive, adaptive, and transformative capacities for resilient livelihoods in the face of shocks and stress. The Livelihood/Economic Empowerment Programme Officer collaborates closely with community-based partners, government, CSOs, business corporations, faith-based institutions/NGOs, traditional leadership, and others to improve lives at the individual, family, and community levels.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A degree in business or entrepreneurship, as well as allied social and natural sciences/disciplines such as economics, entrepreneurship, agriculture, agri-business, rural development, business administration, social work, sociology, development studies, or any other applicable discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in project management, livelihood development, or microfinance enterprise development.
  • Experience with community participation and agricultural, economic, and livelihood development is preferred.
  • Expertise in Climate Smart Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Microfinance, and Strong Agribusiness.

2. COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

Position Summary

The Community Empowerment Officer is responsible for assisting community-based partners in providing necessary support to families for the care and protection of children and young people. This is a specialised programming job that collaborates closely with community-based partners to create a responsive and welcoming environment for the care and protection of children and young people. This specialized programme officer will collaborate with other program officers, government, and CSO partners to improve the functional and financial sustainability of community-based partners who respond to the welfare of disadvantaged families, children, and youth.

The programme officer is in charge of facilitating and growing capacity among community-based partners. The incumbent is expected to work closely with the government, CSOs, business corporate partners, local community structures, local authorities, and other service providers to ensure that children who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care grow up in a caring and supportive family environment and a safe community.

Required qualifications and experience.

  • Possess a degree in a social or natural science related to community development, such as social work, social sciences, sociology, development studies, economics, community nursing, or rural development.
  • Have at least two years of experience implementing community development and child protection programs.

3. INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR (GRANT ADVISOR)

The chosen applicant will report to the National Director and collaborate with him and the Program Team to raise institutional funds for SOS CV Ghana. He/she develops and implements institutional partnership strategies and is a key contributor to the growth of the funding portfolio, as well as day-to-day donor relationship management with bilateral donors, international organizations, governmental institutions, embassies, and any other relevant national or international organizations. The ideal candidate should have the desire for fundraising, donor liaison, contract management strategy, capacity building, partnership development, and networking.

 An ideal candidate must:

  • Hold a first-class degree, ideally in development/social sciences (Sociology, Development Studies, Economics, or a similar discipline), and have 5–8 years of relevant job experience. A Master’s degree will provide an added benefit.
  • Possess a solid understanding of program design and development, particularly in the fields of education, health, livelihoods, and child protection.
  • Capable of coordinating and writing program proposals, acting as a liaison between the program and finance, and submitting them to possible institutional donors
  • Be able to build and maintain positive relationships with funders through regular communication, knowledge sharing, and effective reporting.
  • Demonstrate evidence of medium/large projects they have generated and won (0.5 to 2 million USD).
  • Be able to work with the program team to conduct assessments and feasibility studies that help shape program design. Conduct background research relevant to design initiatives.
  • Have the following competencies: leadership, innovation, teamwork, adaptability, self-motivation, and the ability to work quickly and under tight deadlines.
  • Be skilled in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Internet research.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communication skills, including the capacity to represent SOS in donor forums and create connections with other NGOs.
