Job Opening at United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Ghana

The Office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Ghana seeks applications from qualified people to fill the position listed below.

JOB PURPOSE:

WFP in Ghana supports national development with four thematic pillars: nutrition, food systems, social protection, and emergency preparedness and response. To combat hunger, change agricultural value chains, and boost social protection programs, the private sector has played a significant role in supplying nutritious foods. To fully achieve its goals in Ghana, WFP is expanding its ‘enabler’ role by improving national institutions and supporting advocacy for better food security and nutrition outcomes.

The Country Office is also leveraging strategic collaborations with the commercial sector to generate and meet the demand for healthy diets. The Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2024-2028 includes an innovative Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) initiative to promote positive behaviour and practices in various sectors, with a focus on improving nutrition, food, social protection, and emergency preparedness and response systems. The goal of this role is to lead the creation of the multi-sectoral SBC strategy and monitor its implementation in all WFP Ghana intervention areas.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The SBC Specialist will be directly supervised by the Head of Nutrition Unit and overseen overall by the Deputy Country Director/Head of Programmes.

  • Strategic and Technical Support: Provide strategic and technical guidance to change behaviours related to nutritious food choices, including fortified foods, transformed food systems that support healthy diets, social protection system strengthening, actions that support emergency preparedness and response (EPR), and social cohesion. The position holder will also coordinate SBC design and implementation for specific projects such as rice fortification and school meals, as well as assist relevant government ministries and agencies in developing and implementing innovative Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation strategies based on proven approaches and activities such as marketing.
  • Evidence generation: Collaborate with national institutions and private sector players to design and implement formative assessments and novel techniques to promote learning in the areas of Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation.
  • Capacity Building: Work with government ministries and agencies, partners, the private sector, and Country Office teams to plan, develop, and produce tools and communication vehicles to improve capacities, policies, and systems, resulting in more nutritious food choices and behaviour change in the food, social protection, emergency preparedness, and response sectors.
  • Coordinate partner capacity building in the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of novel methods for social behaviour change and demand creation. Increase the capacity of WFP team members to advocate for nutrition.
  • Establish strategic and operational partnerships to strengthen Social Behaviour Change and Demand Creation activities and systems, engaging stakeholders at national and sub-national levels.
  • Carry out additional tasks that the supervisor has assigned.

Final contract deliverables

  • An integrated SBC strategy was established and implemented.
  • Strengthened capacity of relevant CO and government officials for SBC design, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Key collaborations were formed for optimal SBC deployment.
