Job Description

Associate Research Manager Summary: US-based non-profit Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) seeks global poverty solutions. IPA designs, tests, and improves solutions and their application with decision-makers. This ensures that the evidence collected aids the world’s impoverished.

Ghana is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic like other nations. Stopping this sickness required distributing medicines nationwide. Ghanaians’ vaccination acceptance needs improvement.

Position Summary:

IPA needs an expert consultant to train Ghanaian health professionals in motivational interviewing. Making healthcare personnel’s communication easier will enhance COVID-19 vaccination uptake. This will reduce vaccine worries, dispel misinformation, and boost COVID-19 vaccination rates.

The adviser will create and deliver a motivational interviewing program for COVID-19 vaccination. Motivational interviewing will teach clinicians how to talk to patients, address their worries, and get them vaccinated.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Training Program Development: Help make a complete training program on motivational interviewing methods that includes important theory, practical exercises, case studies, and interactive sessions.
  • How training is given: Work with the Principal Investigators to make sure that the health staff’s training classes are interesting and interactive, and that they actively participate and remember what they learn.
  • Evaluation of training: Create ways to measure how the training program is helping and how well it is working. Collecting feedback from participants and studying the results to find places where the training could be better and to measure how well it helped doctors improve their motivational interviewing skills and how that affected vaccination rates.
  • Materials and tools for training: Creating and giving health staff appropriate training materials, resources, and job aids that they can use to reinforce what they’ve learned and use motivational interviewing techniques in their everyday work.

Skills or Experience Needed

  • Has a lot of experience training people in the healthcare field on motivational interviewing methods or similar communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of the theory, principles, and uses of motivational interviewing, especially in healthcare and getting people to take vaccines.
  • Familiarity with the difficulties and cultural aspects of COVID-19 vaccination in Ghana or similar settings.
  • Also, Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate a wide range of groups.
  • Experience figuring out how well training works and making changes based on what people say.
  • Lastly, A collaborative approach, with the ability to work closely with stakeholders, such as healthcare professionals and project managers.
