HCP Cureblindness (HCP) Invites Job Applications
- Position: Consultant, Gender Equality Consultancy and Training
- Location: Ghana
- Position Type: Short-Term Contract
Organizational Profile:
HCP Cureblindness (HCP) is an international NGO that has been working in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa for over 25 years with a capable network of collaborators to help people retain and regain their sight by developing high-quality, cost-effective eye care systems in underserved areas around the world. More than 43 million people live with blindness on a daily basis, while another 295 million have moderate to severe vision impairment.
90% of these people live in low- and middle-income regions, where access to eye care is restricted and those who are unable to see face significant obstacles. However, there is hope: 80% of this load is curable or preventable. For example, a 10-minute cataract procedure might treat 17 million blind people. Millions more suffer from corneal blindness, which is frequently avoidable or treatable. At HCP Cureblindness, we believe that preventable blindness can and should be overcome. With the assistance of partners in over 25 countries, HCP has performed over 1.4 million sight-restoring procedures and examined over 14.5 million patients to give care and basic therapies.
We’ve trained more than 19,500 eye health professionals and opened five eye hospitals. There is still more work to be done, but we can tackle the mountain of global blindness together.
- VISION: We will be the spark for creating a future in which no one is needlessly blind.
- MISSION: We help countries end avoidable blindness by creating high-quality, cost-effective eye care systems in underserved areas around the world, allowing everyone to regain or retain their sight.
HCP CUREBLINESS IN GHANA:
Since 2008, HCP Cureblindness has worked with 14 Ghanaian private practitioners, teaching hospitals, CHAG institutes, and secondary government hospitals. USAID American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) pays HCP and its subrecipients to promote gender equality.
HCP Cureblindness needs a consultant to create and teach a 3-hour gender equality-focused skills-building training for up to 50 Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) workers in Ghana. Per ADS 205, this short-term consultation fulfills a USAID grant requirement to build organizational policies and procedures for women’s recruitment, employment, advancement, and retention.
Gender Integration Compliance:
ADS 205 requires the Recipient to conduct a gender analysis and include gender considerations into project design and activity implementation based on identified gender disparities. The Recipient must ensure that activity-level performance indicators are gender-sensitive and sex-disaggregated. Additionally, reports should document the impact of activities on gender integration and any course corrections that promote gender equality and empowerment.
Scope of work: May 1, 2024 to July 30, 2024.
- Review USAID grant requirements for gender equality.
- Conduct an assessment by meeting separately with the HCP Cureblindness Program Leadership team and CCTH’s Director of Human Resources to determine the present level of gender equality awareness and policy.
- Based on assessment and consultation with the HCP Program Leadership team, develop a customized 3-hour training workshop focused on increasing general awareness of gender equality and strengthening CCTH’s ability to recruit, hire, promote, and retain women, increasing organizational relevance and sustainability.
- Create a report and action plan with recommendations for improving gender responsiveness as an institution over a 12-month period.
