GERMANY PASSPORT APPLICATION PORTAL
German passports are issued to citizens of Germany. The only other officially recognized documentation that German authorities will frequently accept as evidence of identity from German nationals, aside from the German Identity Card and the German Urgent Travel Document, is a German passport. German passports have either a ten-year (for those over 24) or a six-year validity period (for people under 24).
TYPES OF GERMAN PASSPORT
The three (3) types of German Passports:

Regular Passport
These passports remain valid specifically, for a period between 6 to 10 years, depending on special situations, and are frequently granted to citizens.

Foreign Passports
Officials engaged in diplomacy and on diplomatic missions receive awards Foreign passports,

Special Passport
This unique passport type, which is valid for up to six months, is only issued in exceptional circumstances, such as emergencies.
PASSPORT VALIDATION PERIOD
For applicants under the age of 24, the German biometric passport’s validity is 6 years; otherwise, it is 10 years.
GERMANY PASSPORT ELIGIBILITY CRITERION
A person must have had a valid residence permit in Germany for more than eight years to be qualified for citizenship. After seven years, foreigners who have finally passed an integration course are qualified for naturalization.
One can, however, begin their application procedure after they can demonstrate that they satisfy all the prerequisites for naturalization. Everyone who is at least 16 years old should apply.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCESS
The items required for your appointment are:
- Most importantly, a current photograph that satisfies the government’s stringent requirements for passport photos (in German).
- Additionally, documents demonstrating your identification and German citizenship (e.g. a passport or identity card, and your German naturalization certificate, if applicable).
- Also, note that both left and right index fingers’ fingerprints will also taken at the appointment into saved in a unique chip in the passport.
WHERE TO APPLY FOR AN GERMAN PASSPORT
One can submit their passport application at the Citizens Office in person.
HOW TO APPLY
- You can easily schedule an appointment at the citizens’ office in the municipality where you are registered to apply for a German passport.
- There may, however, come an additional cost if you apply at a citizen’s office in another municipality.
- Besides that, it is not permitted for anyone else to apply on your behalf; you must be in person for the appointment.
