Full-Funded CSIR Bursary Program for African Students 2023/2024

Africans with the necessary qualifications are invited to apply for the CSIR Bursary Program, which supports full-time, jobless students in pursuing degrees in subjects the CSIR considers being priorities.

The bursary, which is available to students who meet academic requirements, aims to increase the number of women and people of color who pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology.

Eligibility Requirements

The following requirements must be met in order for applicants to be considered for the CSIR Bursary Program:

Undergraduates

• Applicants must plan to enroll full-time at a South African public university to pursue their desired degree.
• Undergraduates must have the necessary certificates for admission to the university, and existing university students must have passed all of the courses they registered for during the previous academic year.

Masters and doctoral students

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

• Excellent academic record
• Good organizational and time management abilities
• Good scientific writing skills
• A desire to do research
• Self-motivation
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team
• The capacity to plan and conduct research; outstanding technical skills;
• The capacity to perform successfully under duress as a team member and achieve deadlines;
• Good report-writing skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g., with examples of authoring reports and/or conference papers)
