ROLE TITLE: Country Lead Ghana – Peacebuilding through Economic Resilience in Host Communities Project

Global Communities needs a Ghana Country Lead for the Department of State, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations’ Peacebuilding through Economic Resilience in Northern Cote d’Ivoire and Northern Ghana initiative. This $1.9 million program gives refugees and asylum seekers equal access to livelihoods in northern Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to strengthen social cohesion. Strengthening inclusive, equitable, and sustainable communal management of land and water resources in communities hosting refugees/asylum seekers, increasing equitable economic exchange between host communities and refugees/asylum seekers, and developing conflict resolution skills in these communities will improve at-risk communities’ livelihoods.

The Country Lead – Ghana will supervise projects and provide technical support in northern Ghana under the Program Director. We need passionate, dedicated experts to help us achieve a future of expanded opportunity, resilience, and prosperity.

Responsibilities

The Country Lead – Ghana will be in charge of managing the regional program team, as well as the technical and operational aspects of activity execution in northern Ghana. The Country Lead will assist the Program Director and work with appropriate regional stakeholders, including communities, government and civil society stakeholders, and other critical partners, to ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of project initiatives. S/he will guide workers and ensure that the project’s implementation is in line with the approved work plan and budget, as well as meeting achievement targets. Technical Leadership:

  • Support the Program Director in developing strategy and work plans, as well as managing activity at the regional level under donor regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversee technical project activities in northern Ghana, while also supervising and mentoring program workers and consultants.
  • Oversee project planning, execution, and documentation to ensure that targets and deliverables are met on schedule and with high quality.
  • Ensure that social cohesion activities adhere to global and local best practices, and respond strategically to changing program requirements as needed to fulfill project goals and objectives.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and gather feedback from participants and stakeholders.
  • To respond appropriately to contextual changes and difficulties, apply adaptive management principles and participatory procedures.
  • Lead project staff through a quarterly evaluation of project performance and outcome data to track progress against indicator targets. Regularly analyze and enhance project performance with the work plan and targets.
  • Develop and sustain a sense of shared ownership and teamwork among employees and partners, as well as good working relationships with important internal and external stakeholders.

Operating Management:

  • Collaborate with the Global Communities Global Support Team and Ghana Country Office staff to harness expertise and actions while efficiently and correctly communicating project progress, accomplishments, difficulties, and money utilization.
  • Ensure compliance with the provisions of the donor agreement and Global Communities’ internal policies.
  • Create a happy and safe work environment for all employees.
  • Represent Global Communities and the project at meetings with local stakeholders (other NGOs, government officials, private sector institutions, and so on) as required.
  • Promote Global Communities’ values (purposeful, devoted, real, and linked) and ensure that all project personnel demonstrate them.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a field relating to international development, public administration, peacekeeping, or natural resource management is necessary.
  • Six years of experience executing and managing relevant initiatives focused on social cohesion, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, community development, economic possibilities, and/or governance.
  • Relevant job experience in Ghana’s Upper East and/or Upper West regions is preferred.
    Proven expertise as a leader in the administration of similar, international donor-supported initiatives, including planning, management, supervision, budgeting, and creating constructive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Knowledge/experience with Ghanaian and US government norms and regulations governing the management of donor-funded initiatives and the hiring of staff is strongly encouraged.
    Proven experience managing a team and tracking and documenting progress toward agreed-upon milestones and project objectives.
  • Understanding of cross-cutting issues such as gender equity, environmental/climate change, and social inclusion, as well as how they apply to the Upper West and Upper East Regions of Ghana.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication abilities, both oral and written.
  • Language requirements include full professional fluency in spoken and written English, as well as skills in appropriate local languages.
  • Passion for Global Communities’ mission and ideals.
