POSITION: HR & Training Officer
BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd (BGSL) is seeking an HR & Training Officer to join our team in Accra. As an HR & Training Officer, you will not simply process paperwork; you will recruit suitable candidates, design assessment tools, conduct training needs analyses, deliver onboarding programs, implement performance appraisal systems, ensure compliance with the Bank of Ghana and Data Protection Act, and support employee engagement initiatives. Moreover, you will play a key role in establishing a safeguarding culture across the organization.
Your Mission
You will support the HR department in the effective execution of HR functions, with a key focus on recruitment, employee relations, training and development, performance management, and administrative HR duties. Your ability to liaise with Heads of Departments, source candidates using agreed channels, develop assessment tools, schedule final interviews, and fill vacancies within agreed timelines will keep our workforce strong. Additionally, you will collaborate with internal teams to identify skill gaps, create learning resources, deliver training programs, and track training history.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans recruitment, training, performance management, compliance, employee engagement, records management, payroll support, and safeguarding. Here is what you will tackle:
Recruitment
- You will receive staff requisitions from the Head of HR and initiate the recruitment process.
- Liaising with Heads of Departments to prepare job specifications for sourcing purposes keeps role descriptions accurate.
- Sourcing suitable candidates using agreed channels, designing placement advertisements, and identifying cost effective recruitment channels expands our talent pool.
- Developing assessment tools for the selection process, conducting preliminary interviews, and screening applicants ensures basic compliance with position qualifications.
- Scheduling final interviews, following up with departmental heads for feedback, and taking candidates through online assessments keeps the process moving.
- Liaising with recruitment agencies when needed and ensuring all recruitment policies, procedures, and techniques are adhered to protects the organization.
- Recommending improvements to recruitment policies and filling all vacancies within agreed timelines demonstrates efficiency.
Training
- You will collaborate with internal teams and senior management to determine skill gaps and perform thorough training need analyses.
- Reviewing existing learning resources and creating new ones including manuals, videos, blog posts, and information guides strengthens our training library.
- Researching, reaching out to, and managing relationships with external subject matter experts and consultants supplements our internal efforts.
- Planning, creating, and delivering training programs including webinars, online certificate courses, and self paced e learning addresses skill deficits.
- Preparing and conducting onboarding training sessions for new employees across different departments ensures smooth integration.
- Organizing appropriate testing and working with team managers to track and evaluate training effectiveness closes the loop.
- Analyzing feedback from employees regarding training programs, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing relevant changes drives continuous improvement.
- Staying up to date on learning trends and recommending new training programs and learning management systems keeps us current.
- Conducting effective evaluation analysis on trainings and tracking training history and certifications demonstrates accountability.
Performance Management
- You will assist in implementing performance appraisal systems including objective settings, mid year, and end of year assessments.
- Monitoring performance management cycles and supporting departmental heads in conducting reviews ensures consistency.
- Providing support to staff on performance improvement and career development builds employee capability.
Compliance & Reporting
- You will ensure compliance with recruitment procedures, regulatory requirements including Bank of Ghana and Data Protection Act, and other internal policies.
- Preparing HR reports as required and supporting internal and external audits related to HR and training keeps us audit ready.
- Facilitating the renewal of legal documentation for expatriate staff including work permits, residence permits, and ECOWAS ID cards.
Employee Engagement
- You will support initiatives to promote a positive, inclusive work culture.
- Coordinating employee engagement programs, wellness activities, and team building events strengthens morale.
- Addressing employee welfare issues and supporting retention strategies reduces turnover.
Personnel Records Management
- You will maintain and update staff records including personal details, contracts, leaves, and performance reviews.
- Ensuring confidentiality of staff personal and professional information is non negotiable.
- Documenting investigations, meetings, and resolutions creates an audit trail.
- Distributing internal communication including HR updates, policy changes, and training notices keeps everyone informed.
Payroll & Benefits Support
- You will coordinate with the HRM and finance team to ensure accurate processing of salaries and staff benefits.
- Assisting staff with benefits enrollment and queries including health insurance, tier 3 contributions and withdrawals, and welfare contributions and withdrawals builds trust.
- Tracking absences, leaves, and overtime records supports accurate payroll.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- You will establish a safeguarding culture across all levels of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy.
- Acting as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment protects vulnerable populations.
- Following the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encouraging others to do so demonstrates leadership.

Specific Educational Qualification
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
- Professional HR certification such as CHRMP, CIPD, or SPHRM gives you a distinct advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in a human resources role.
- Experience in the financial services or banking sector is highly preferred.
- In depth knowledge of Ghana Labour Laws and HR best practices.
- Experience in training needs analysis, curriculum development, and adult learning principles.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with staff at all levels.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities for juggling recruitment, training, and reporting deadlines.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism when handling sensitive employee information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Strong leadership and team management skills for guiding HR initiatives.
