POSITION: Auxiliary Drill Mechanic

About this role:

To ensure equipment availability and optimal mining operations and production, carry out mechanical maintenance, deployment, troubleshooting, replacement, repair, and testing on Sandvik Pantera Drills under OEM specifications and safety regulations.
In this role, you will:

Mechanical Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Create a work order before beginning any corrective or repair work.
  • If any issues arise, create a job card for the work to be done.
  • Achieve job objectives by creating your work schedule and coordinating with support services.
  • Attend to things on the maintenance planning schedule as needed.
  • Perform installations, maintenance, and repairs under OEM standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical and/or operational issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all mechanical equipment to guarantee proper operation, including, but not limited to, Sandvik Pantera drills and support equipment.
  • Perform many different maintenance jobs, including breakdowns and preventative maintenance.
  • Disassemble and reassemble several important components for repair purposes.
  • Before beginning any work, ensure that all lock-out/tag-out procedures have been completed.
  • Provide information about sufficient spare availability and stock levels.
  • Assist specialists with more intricate fixes.
  • Work within established procedures and operating manuals, as specified by OEMs and best practices.
  • Ensure that daily and rotational quality targets are met, such as First Stop After PM (FSAPM), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and Mean Time To Repairs (MTTR).
  • Perform daily inspections and lubrication services on the machinery.
  • Collect oil samples from the mining fleet using the best techniques to reduce contamination.

Troubleshooting

  • Conduct daily inspections of all Pantera Drills and record all findings.
  • Examine any malfunctioning drills and do a root cause analysis to determine whether to repair or replace them.
  • Analyze the mentioned difficulties and concerns to determine the best technological solutions within OEM guidelines.
  • Strive to minimize downtime and expenditures.

Reporting

  • Keep records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Create daily reports outlining the jobs for the day and submit them to the supervisor.

Health, Safety, and Environment

  • Deliver specified outcomes and/or support services using Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environment systems, policies, and protocols.
  • Inspect the equipment to detect mechanical and basic electrical hazards.
  • Attend every safety meeting.

Your Training, Skills, and Experience Checklist:

Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):

  • A minimum of a Mechanical Engineering Technician certificate or equivalent.
  • MINCOM Certification as an Inspection Engineer is an advantage.

Additional knowledge:

  • Advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance concepts and industry norms.
  • Advanced expertise and experience in maintaining Pantera Drills.
  • Understanding of the workflow management process.
  • Solid understanding of planning and scheduling.
  • Excellent knowledge of CMMS/ERP.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience with Sandvik Pantera Drills and support equipment.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents such as technical instructions, test procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to detect and report problems using technical terminology for equipment parts.
  • The ability to use mechanical tools to install, maintain, and repair equipment and power plants.
  • Ability to manage operational quality in compliance with the organization’s quality requirements and worldwide best practices.
