Edinburgh University Mastercard Foundation Scholarships 2023/24

Applications for the University of Edinburgh’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program are being accepted from graduates with the necessary qualifications or those who will graduate soon in 2023–2024.

Under the University of Edinburgh’s Scholars Program, African students who possess exceptional academic and leadership qualities but limited educational possibilities can apply for postgraduate online scholarships.

Qualification Standards

In order to be eligible for the Edinburgh Mastercard Scholarships, candidates must fulfill the following essential requirements:

• The applicants will have encountered major obstacles to their education, whether they are financial, social, practical, personal, or health-related.
• Candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree by September 2023 and upload their official final transcript and degree certificate by December 7th in addition to their application.
• Candidates must reside in, be citizens of, or be in the process of becoming refugees in a Sub-Saharan African nation.
• Applicants need to have overcome obstacles in their early careers and schooling.
• Candidates need to show that they have a history of community service and leadership.
• Candidates must exhibit ambition or experience in solving the climate crisis in a significant way.
• Candidates must be under 35 on September 1, 2024.
• Applicants must not have earned a postgraduate degree in the past and cannot be enrolled in classes at another university or apply to do so while receiving the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.

Additional Requirement

In order to be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, applicants for the online master’s program must have earned a postgraduate degree in the past or be enrolled in or intending to enroll in another university.

Candidates for the online postgraduate diploma may hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from a university in Sub-Saharan Africa, provided that they will receive their diploma by December 7, 2023. The admissions team will assess your undergraduate degree if you have a Master’s in order to determine whether it meets the requirements for postgraduate diploma enrollment.

Acceptable Courses:

Master’s degrees in sustainable land and cities, global challenges, international development, global food security and nutrition, carbon management, and the circular economy MSc in Community Action and Social Justice; MSc in Innovation, Technology, and Data Science; Masters in One Health and Digital Education

Online Masters

Those who have finished an undergraduate degree and wish to gain more specialized knowledge in the same field or related professional area are often the target audience for master’s programs.

Those who already hold a postgraduate degree are not eligible to apply for this grant.

The following programs are only eligible for the Mastercard Foundation scholarship, which is intended to pay for three years of part-time online study:

International Development (exclusive to master’s program)

The program addresses the most important problems that individuals, groups, and organizations are currently facing, such as sustainability and climate change. The changing climate, conflicting ideologies, and simultaneous economic stagnation and overconsumption necessitate new perspectives on global government and development.

By studying the history of international development, for example, students will have the chance to interact with, investigate, and evaluate numerous processes that have contributed to climate change.

What is the definition of development difficulties, how are they translated into workable plans, and who gets to benefit and who doesn’t? Courses that address issues such as whether people fleeing natural catastrophes are beneficial or detrimental and how migration and mobility policies relate to displacement caused by climate change will be available to students.

In the end, the curriculum explores development concerns in a variety of diverse social, historical, and political contexts while developing and strengthening critical skills necessary for assessing these development processes and injustices.

Global Nutrition and Food Security (Master’s or Diploma)

The availability, accessibility, and consumption of sustainable, healthy, and safe food by all, particularly by disadvantaged social groups, is the focus of food security.

In the context of climate change, finite resources, and sustainable development, the MSc Global Food Security and Nutrition program offers students the chance to gain knowledge and comprehension of various food production systems and their capacity to meet the food and nutritional needs of the world’s expanding population.

Procedures for Applications

How To Apply?

By the application deadline, prospective candidates for the University of Edinburgh’s Mastercard Foundation Scholarships must submit an online application.

Academic qualifications are a prerequisite for admission to the University of Edinburgh. Prior to applying to the university, candidates must apply for this scholarship. Applications submitted via a method other than the online application process will not be accepted by the Scholarship Program.

Method of Selection

The following standards are used in the application selection process:

• The candidate’s academic standing to be admitted to the University of Edinburgh
• History of being a transformative leader and giving back to the community
• Application quality is consistent with the climate justice topic of the Scholars Program.
• Possible influence on the advancement of the candidate’s nation of origin
• Candidates who have encountered major obstacles in their pursuit of an education (financial, social, personal, practical, or health-related)

Application schedule for 2023–2024

• Applications open on October 23, 2023, at 10 a.m. UK time.
• Candidates must have finished registering on the scholarship application website, as well as the eligibility evaluation and declaration, by December 1, 2023, at 5 p.m. UK time.
• Applications close at 5 p.m. UK time on December 7, 2023.
• Online Distance Learners (ODL) interview shortlisting starts in early February 2024; candidates who make the cut will be advised of their status.
• In the middle to end of February 2024, ODL interviews are held.
• The results of the ODL interviews will be released by mid-March.
• March–July 2024: Assistance via admissions procedures
• September 2024: Commencement of academic program
