The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), a government agency set up by an Act of Parliament, is looking for suitable Ghanaians to fill the following jobs: DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NNRI)

The Organization

The Government of Ghana started the NNRI as the Ghana Nuclear Reactor Project, which was the first Institute of the GAEC. The goal of the Project was to teach the country about nuclear science and technology and use the peaceful uses of nuclear energy to help the country grow. The NNRI’s job is to support and improve nuclear science and technology for Ghana’s social and economic growth.

• Research and development (R&D), and
• Putting its R&D work to use in the real world.

The scientific and technical work of the Institute is done by eight (8) Centres, which work together with some National Research Institutions, Universities, Departments and Agencies under Ministries, and International Institutions, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.

THE POSITION

The GAEC, working with the relevant agencies, chooses the Director as the Executive Head of the Institutes. Report to the Director-General and are in charge of running the administrative, scientific, technical, and business duties of the Institutes. The Director also serves on the GAEC’s Executive Committee.

The Person

Each hopeful must:

• At the time of the meeting, you can’t be older than 55 years old
• Be a well-known scholar and expert in the field of local and/or a good name in the field internationally.
• Have shown that they can organize and lead
• Know how to raise money and find resources mobilization for study in the area
• Be an active member in both past and present technical cooperation projects and/or other projects related to the Institute
• Be good with people and know how to talk to them
• Be a good team player who can handle and/or manage a problem, and
• Be able to get people to work hard to reach goals.

The Qualifications Needed

The following skills are needed for each job:

• At least a PhD in the field in question,
• A minimum of five (5) years of work in the field after getting a PhD,
• A minimum rank of Principal Research Scientist or Associate Professor with at least three years of experience in the field after being promoted or given the title,
• At least fifteen (15) years of experience in the field, of which ten (10) years should be at the senior management level in a research institution or university.
• Know the works of local and international artists Organizations that each Institute works with, and why no matter where the GAEC fits in
• Getting administrative, management, or any other professional or academic qualification(s) from a known institution(s) could be a plus, but it’s not required, and
• Being a member of a professional organization is an extra advantage.

Important Duties or Tasks

Applicants who get the jobs will have to:

• Work closely with the Director-General to come up with and carry out the Institute’s future and current policies, as appropriate,
• Manage, coordinate, and direct study that is important at local, national, and international levels
• Help develop expertise in the relevant fields;
• Start new research proposals in line with programs of the IAEA and/or UNOOSA or any relevant approved Country Programme Framework for Ghana; and coordinate research, scientific, technical, and business activities at the Institute concerned.
• Improve how science is used in the right places.
• Set the priority goals of the relevant research efforts within the Institute that are related to the GAEC’s policies
• Set the research’s most important goals.
• Drive the study and technical operations of the Institute in question, including the sale of its research and the results of using that study.
• Make and use the right plans and strategies for coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating research projects within the Institute concerned.
• Make sure the Institute has a good place to work so that its study can be published. j) Make sure there are enough funds for study in the Institute in question. k) Any other related job the General Director
• Encourage people who have a stake in Nuclear Science, Space Science, Technology, and Applications to work together.

Terms of Appointment

Each appointment will be for a full five-year term the first time around. If the job is done well, it may be extended for a second term. Applicants who are chosen must be able to serve the full five-year term.
