The Policy and Politics division’s new Director of Climate and Energy Policy leads a team on all climate and energy policy issues. This will entail considering net zero, sustainable energy mix, new technology, data utilization, customer behavior, and efficient networks. The Director will lead TBI’s Strategy and Partnerships division’s policy efforts. The postholder’s knowledge and network will help us find companies to partner with. To guarantee that our global policy package is ambitious, cohesive, and affordable, the Director must collaborate with other policy teams on science and technology, transport, health, and food. This role will shape the Institute’s policy agenda and boost our credibility. Heads of Government, Opposition Leaders, Chancellors, Finance Ministers, and their teams should trust TBI for politically-relevant climate and energy policy thought leadership. The Executive Director, Policy works closely with the Institute’s Executive Chairman, CEO, senior worldwide Advisory colleagues, Strategy and Partnerships, and Internal Operations departments.

Key Duties

  • Conduct research on national and global climate and energy trends and policy issues.
  • Develop policy analysis and recommendations for governments and policymakers.
  • Oversee high-quality published work and private briefing material for energy policy specialists, government colleagues, partners, or broader political audiences.
  • Advise TBI executives and external clients.
  • Promote the Institute’s position at conferences, meetings, and in the media to enhance our reputation.
  • Collaborate with and advise other policy areas
  • Lead a Future of Britain stream, contribute to the policy plan, and help present and advocate it.
  • Support Advisory and Strategy and Partnerships colleagues in international forums and regional or national policy concerns to build our climate and energy policy reputation.
  • Help senior Institute leaders engage in climate and energy policy externally.
  • Manage the team’s budget and hold management accountable for spending within budget.
  • Lead, coach, and manage a TBI-wide integrated team.
  • Maintain a high-performing culture and emphasize learning, development, and employee well-being.
  • Manage practice-wide recruitment.
  • Build solid, collaborative TBI partnerships and promote TBI’s progressive principles.

Person Specification

  • A long history of cutting-edge climate and energy policy work in government, business, academia, or policy organizations
  • Climate and energy policy expertise:
  • Carbon emission models and net-zero routes
  • Energy generation infrastructure design and mix’s Impact on policy
  • New energy generation, storage, and management technologies
  • Transition from fossil fuel home heating Options for mitigation like carbon capture and storage and ways to improve each of these
  • Deep understanding of climate and energy policy at strategic design, service, and citizen levels.
  • Industry, academics, and climate and energy policymakers have a vast and deep global network.
  • Working with politicians
  • A history of climate and energy policy activism, including broadcast media.
  • An exceptional ability to articulate complicated issues to executive office and technical audiences
  • Proven ability to establish, inspire, and maintain high-performing teams to achieve remarkable goals
  • Successful teamwork in a large and diverse organization
  • Strategic, enterprising, and question the current quo to plan and achieve difficult goals
