Changes to Australia Visa from January 2024 ~ Australia Immigration 2024

2. Eliminating the Age Limit for the Working Holiday Visa Extension

The age restriction for individuals from qualifying countries applying for a Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) has been raised to 35 years old as of January 31, 2024. This complies with the Free Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom and Australia.

3. Deletion of the 2-Year Age Exemption for Skilled Regional Visas

The two-year age exemption period for applicants for Regional Skilled Visas (Subclass 491) also expires on July 1, 2024. All individuals seeking this visa must be under 45 years old at the time of invitation.

4. Regional Visas for Applicants with High Income

Beginning on July 1, 2024, the government will expand the number of regional visas accessible to candidates with high incomes. This is one strategy the government uses to entice highly qualified professionals to the surrounding areas.

5. Amendments Relating to Skilled Migration Occupation Lists

The Australian government plans to review and update its listings of skilled migration occupations in 2024. The evaluation process will ensure that the lists align with the current demands of the industry. This is an extension of the Australian government’s ongoing attempts to modernize immigration laws to increase the labor force, talent pool, and skills of the nation.

8 Australia Visa and Immigration Updates in 2023

In 2023, there were important revisions to Australian immigration law, affecting several Visa categories. We’ll go over an overview of the eight main changes affecting visas from September to December 2023 in this update.

1. ACT Invitation Round – November 2023

On November 27, 2023, the ACT hosted its invitation round, inviting Canberrans to submit recommendations for small business owners, 457 and 482 Visa holders, critical skill professionals, and foreign candidates for critical skill occupations. The following round will take place before February 5, 2024.

2. New South Wales Enhanced Pathways for Nominations

New South Wales has created more effective and open avenues for nominations in addition to modernizing the procedures for the Skilled Work Regional Visa under the two primary Pathways of invitation by investment (Pathway 2) and direct application (Pathway 1). The government intends to send out invitations for Pathway 2 shortly after it starts accepting direct applications under Pathway 1.

3. Tasmania Nomination and Processing Time

In Tasmania, invitations are extended to roughly thirty people each week based on registrations of interest. Only the most impressive ones, though, are chosen for nomination. 286 of the 600 seats allocated for the skilled nomination visa have been filled, whereas 206 of the nominations for the skilled regional work visa have been approved.

4. 11 New Occupations Added by Northern Territory DAMA

With the addition of 11 new occupations, the Northern Territory DAMA has been extended for an extra year, until December 24, 2024. This means that a total of 135 occupations are now eligible. Foreign workers may be nominated for permanent Subclass 186 visas after working in the Northern Territory for two years in a full-time job. The salary requirement for temporary skilled migration has been decreased to $55,000 for several occupations.

5. Nominations for Skilled Work Regional Subclass 490 Visa

Information regarding nominations and applications for the Regional Subclass 490 Visa for skilled employment for the 2023–2024 year, which started on October 23, 2023, has been made public by the Northern Territory government. A few of the modifications that candidates must be aware of are the exclusion of Northern Territory graduates, the Limited offshore priority occupation stream, and the work requirement for residents of the Northern Territory.

6. South Australia Skilled Migration Program

The 2023–2024 Skilled Migration State Nomination program in South Australia has several improvements over the previous fiscal year. To effectively manage the overwhelming volume of applications, South Australia migration has also created a Registration of Interest mechanism, given the limited number of nominations available. One area that requires particular focus is making the retention of international graduates and those in South Australia on temporary visas a priority.

7. New South Wales Focus on Priority Sectors

According to the financial year 2023–2024, New South Wales will prioritize Priority Industries on lists of skilled jobs. New South Wales will concentrate on the following target sector groupings: agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, and information and communication technology (ICT). The Australian government plans to focus on key industries, however high-ranking EOIs submitted in non-priority industries may also be taken into consideration based on the need for labor.

8. New Australia PR Pathway for 457 and 482 Visa Holders

This update covers the main amendments to the immigration legislation as well as the fourth report for November on recent changes to Australian immigration law. The Australian government is making significant changes to the 1994 Migration Law, which went into effect on November 25, 2023.
