Identifying candidates most likely to get Canada’s Express Entry ITA in 2023

Identifying individuals who are most likely to receive an Express Entry ITA in 2023 is a lengthy procedure that takes into account a variety of factors. To comprehend the preceding, we must examine the specifics of the past records. The Canadian government has released updated information on the human capital profiles that obtained the most Express Entry ITAs between January and September 2023.

During the aforementioned time period, Canada issued ITAs to 53,455 Express Entry candidates. This, however, excludes data from ITAs granted under Express Entry in October. In October, an additional 9,173 ITAs were distributed to candidates.

There are many categories for displaying the number of ITAs by program, province, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, age, and occupation.

Express Entry accepts applications for any of its three main programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the FSTP, and the CEC.

This application process also largely supervises the applicants in the Provincial Nominee Program.

Each program has its own eligibility conditions. All applicants, however, must be evaluated and ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System. This CRS method assigns candidates a score based on their human traits. Work experience, age, education, and language proficiency are examples of these.

The data also recognizes candidates who have received a Provincial Nomination. A Provincial Nomination automatically adds 600 points to a candidate’s CRS score if they have an Express Entry profile.

CEC candidates in their twenties working as Software Engineers or those intending to live in Ontario are the most likely to receive an ITA under Express Entry in 2023.

ITAs classified by program

In the first nine months of this year, the majority of candidates in the Canadian Experience Class received the maximum amount of ITAs. The majority of CEC candidates have at least one year of job experience. Furthermore, they meet the IRCC’s language proficiency requirements. In total, 23,910 CEC candidates received an Invitation to Apply. This represents 45 percent of all ITAs.

Candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker Program received the second most invites. With approximately 15,855 invitations, this is nearly 30% of all invitations. Candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program earned the third-highest number of invites, with 13,655 ITAs. This represents 26% of all invitations to apply.

However, no ITAs were awarded to candidates under the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

The primary occupations

Several jobs overlapped because they received the greatest number of invitations, depending on each program. Overall, Software Engineers ranked first in the top five occupations for the three programs listed below:

Canadian Experience Class

  • 1,725: Software engineers and designers
  • 1,745: Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  •  1,375: Information systems analysts and consultants
  • 1,240: CEC Food Service Supervisors
  • 855: Administrative assistants

Federal Skilled Worker Program

  • 650: Financial auditors and accountants
  • 570: Dentists
  • 565: Software engineers and designers
  • 505: Professional occupations in advertising, marketing, and public relations
  • 420: Database analysts and data administrators

Provincial Nominee Program

  • 970 – Other occupations
  • 820 – Software engineers and designers
  • 615 – Information systems analysts and consultants
  • 595 – Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  • 420 – Welders and related machine operators

ITAs based on CRS Score

A total of 26,070 Express Entry candidates had a CRS score between 451 and 500. On the other side, 11,640 candidates received CRS scores ranging from 501 to 600. Furthermore, only 225 Express Entry candidates received an ITA ranging from 701 to 800. In addition, 790 candidates received a score between 801 and 900.

Notably, over 7,7550 Express Entry candidates obtained a CRS score between 901 and 1,000. Nearly 5,040 of these contenders had scores above 1,000. Receiving a Provincial Nomination is the only way they can increase their CRS score by 600 points. This alone allows you to get 600 points out of a possible 1,200 CRS points.

ITAs by province

Over half of all Express Entry candidates either lived in Ontario or planned to move there. According to the data, 31,550 candidates received ITAs. British Columbia has the second-highest number of candidates with ITAs. In Alberta, on the other hand, candidates received 5,280 ITAs. Candidates from Nova Scotia were invited to apply in 1,595 cases. The remaining Canadian provinces received fewer than 1,500 invites.

ITAs by Age

The majority of candidates who received the most invites were between the ages of 19 and 29. In total, 28,970 applicants in their twenties were invited to apply.

Younger applicants earn a higher CRS score from the IRCC, according to Statistics Canada’s longitudinal analysis, since they have more time to adjust to life in Canada and the labor market.

According to a Statistics Canada study, the age of an immigrant is one of the best indications of their capacity to integrate into the labor market. Younger newcomers have more time to learn French or English, gain Canadian work experience, and establish a professional network in Canada. One Express Entry candidate aged 20-29 receives 110 CRS points. One participant, 19 years old, received 105 points.

Targets for Express Entry immigration

Despite being more than the 37,335 total invited in 2022, the number of Express Entry candidates accepted between January and September 2023 falls short of the 108,105 invited in 2021.

The pandemic has made the last two years extraordinary. IRCC increased ITAs to CEC candidates in 2021 to help it meet its goal of landing over 400,000 immigrants during the epidemic, despite border constraints. However, because of the resulting backlog and decreased service standards, the IRCC decided to restrict Express Entry ITAs in 2022.

Since the pandemic, the majority of ITAs have gone to applicants in the Canadian Experience Class. Prior to the outbreak, the FSWP was the top ITA program.

The IRCC has set a target of 110,770 annual admissions of permanent residents to Canada under Express Entry programs in 2024, which will rise to 117,500 in 2025 and 2026. Because successful Express Entry candidates are allowed to bring their partners and children if they meet IRCC requirements, the number of ITAs granted is often smaller than the number of admissions.
