ROLE: Postdoctoral Researcher, CEGENSA

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy (CEGENSA) are working together on a project called the Africa-based Gender Technical Platform for Gender Responsive Malaria Advocacy and Policy. The goal of the project is to give CEGENSA’s gender experts more skills in gender integration and malaria so they can give technical advice on gender integration for malaria programming and policy.

The project will also be in charge of managing the Global Malaria and Gender Community of Practice and coming up with important evidence and lessons at the intersection of gender and malaria. The person who gets the job will work with the project coordinators to document and analyze the whole process of setting up the project, as well as come up with key evidence and learning insights at the intersection of gender and malaria. He or she will be in charge of helping the project team do gender analyses of national malaria strategic plans and reviews of a few countries where malaria is common.

Through the results of the publication, CEGENSA’s Pan-African perspective is expected to find new ways to deal with complicated issues related to gender and to find, contextualize, and integrate gender-transformative approaches into malaria advocacy and policy frameworks to improve outcomes for both malaria and gender equality. In this role, the person who gets the job will work closely with the coordinators.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

• A PhD that was given within the last five years in any field that has to do with gender and/or health. Having worked on malaria before will be a plus.
• Proven ability to write research articles that are peer-reviewed and published in high-ranking journals.
• Great written and spoken English communication skills.
• Be able to work well with people from different fields on a research team.

Applicants should submit the following in a single PDF file:

• A CV with a full list of their publications;
• Copies of their academic transcripts and/or certificates;
• An example of a piece of writing that was published no more than 10 years ago on gender, malaria, or any health or health-related topic;
• The email addresses of two referees who were directly involved in their PhD and/or previous work;

Conditions of award:

• The person who gets the job will have to start working on the project at a time agreed upon by both parties and no later than May 30, 2023.
• He or she will be hired on a contract that lasts for one year and can be extended for another year.
• The successful applicant will have to follow the approved policies, procedures, and practices of the University of Ghana as a member of the university community.
• The pay is good compared to the competition.
• CEGENSA has the right to:
• Turn down applications that aren’t eligible, aren’t complete, or aren’t right;
• Change the terms of the award, or not give any awards at all.
