Position: Senior Geologist – Evaluation
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited’s Obuasi Gold Mine is almost done with the redevelopment phase, which will make it more modern, efficient, and long-term successful. The underground mining process is fully automated and is set up to mine an average of 5,000 t of ore per day.
ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
The Senior Geologist – Evaluation’s job is to make solid Resource models that can be used for business planning.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Set up the necessary evaluation methods and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including the requirements for operational readiness.
- Give clear geographic evaluation data so that the rolling 18-month plan can be updated every three months on time. Participate in integrated model changes
- Create the yearly budget for the Evaluation cost center to meet the goals for the annual, medium-term, and Life of Mine business plans.
- Set up a network of relationships with key stakeholders to spread the word about projects and improvements.
- Report on the progress and development of projects and improvements to the Geology Evaluation function, including the results and benefits.
- Describe the exact problems and limits that need to be dealt with in the Geology Evaluation function.
- Present answers to specific problems with clear methods and resources for solving them. This will help improve the performance of processes and procedures.
- Show safety leadership and improve the culture of safety, health, the environment, and sustainable development in the Geology department and with your own team.
- Give the team the tools and knowledge they need to be able to deliver the annual budget consistently and well, based on their job and level of authority.
- Projects should be carried out with great care, and the team should have a mindset of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Develop and keep good relationships with internal stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, GTBU, etc.) and external stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission, etc.) to find out what societal and regulatory expectations and requirements are and how they are changing.
- Help make the Mineral Resource Reporting or its international version.
- Participate in mined-to-mill balance reporting
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
- Geology BSc or BSc (Honours)
Experience
- 8 years of work with geology in general and estimating mineral resources
- Having a good grasp of geostatistics
- Exposure to exploration and mining geology, as well as underground mining processes
- The person in charge should be familiar with estimating deposits of a “nuggety” type.
- A good understanding of how to use tools for estimating resources, as well as advanced Datamine and Seequent Leapfrog skills.
- A good understanding of databases, labs, and QAQC assays.
- Registered with a professional body like AuSIMM or something similar
- Supervision experience in the past.
