POSITION: Director, Commercial Banking

Position Summary

  • Formulate the Absa Ghana Commercial Banking strategy to align with the broader country and ARO business vision and aspirations.
  • Direct the implementation of the established Commercial Banking strategy to achieve a leading position in the Ghanaian market and among the Absa ARO subsidiaries.
  • Oversee the Commercial Banking coverage teams nationwide and the product/proposition teams that cater to both Commercial and SME.
  • Contribute as a member of the ARO RBB Business banking, Country Management Committee (Exco), and various leadership gatherings.

Responsibilities

Client – 25% 

  • Create and execute a distinct, detailed, and suitable client interaction framework in Commercial Banking.
  • As the primary coverage banker in Commercial, establish and expand lucrative connections with essential Customers, Trade Associations, Regulators, Industry Groups, and additional stakeholders.
  • Ensure and sustain elevated levels of customer relationship management, outstanding customer service, and value creation through the Relationship managers and Product Teams.
  • Guarantee, via Relationship managers, the preservation of key clients and robust new client onboarding by delivering suitable customer solutions within risk and pricing limits that meet the requirements of both the clients and the Bank.
  • Collaborate with the CX team and various stakeholders to fulfill customer requirements and ensure the Commercial Banking division attains high and progressively better customer satisfaction scores.

Co-worker – 25% 

  • Serve as a leading example for both leadership and peers while taking on a significant role in implementing the RBB and company strategy.
  • Incorporate the Absa values and behaviors within the Commercial Banking sector.
  • Guide the local Business Banking team to achieve best in class standards, recruit the highest caliber talent, enhance performance, and implement consequence management through reward practices to identify and recognize top achievers.
  • Collaborate with the People Function Lead for Business Banking to establish the people management approach for the organization, emphasizing talent management, growth, recruitment, and employee retention.
  • Foster a culture of change and creativity in the Commercial Banking sector by promoting knowledge exchange and innovative practices.
  • Incorporate formal Performance Development and casual coaching within the Team.
  • Engage in the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) action items initiated by the management team and assess action logs to evaluate the success of execution.

Organization (Financial Statement & Economic Results) – 30% 

  • Responsible for achieving the financial profit results of the Business Banking division.
  • Create a business plan in collaboration with all Relationship Managers alongside sector and product experts that will yield sustainable growth in the balance sheet and financial results.
  • Guarantee that all products are correctly designed, fulfill customer expectations, and are suitably priced to allow the firm to attain a fair risk-reward balance throughout the customer portfolio.

Management & Oversight – 20% 

  • Accountable for overseeing the Commercial Business in accordance with regulatory requirements, Internal Absa policies, and standards while handling reputational risk.
  • Demonstrate the suitable Management Control Approach (MCA) and establish a culture of compliance with governance and controls across the entire Commercial Banking Team.
  • Guarantee that the Commercial Banking division consistently maintains a clear, acceptable Control Environment (CE).

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Undergraduate and graduate degrees
  • Business or associated credential
  • At least 10 years of experience in Banking. Having experience in the Corporate, Commercial, and SME sectors would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in managing clients, overseeing personnel, and assessing credit risk.
  • Established connections in the Business and Financial industries of Ghana.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Exceptional understanding of Business and Commercial banking offerings and solutions.
  • Strong understanding of strategic and planning procedures.
  • Knowledge and expertise in product development
  • Exceptional understanding of governance and control requirements and context.

Preferred

  • Understanding of banking and financial conditions in developing markets
  • Financial and governmental frameworks in Africa and/or various developing economies.

Skills: 

  • Well-honed coaching abilities
  • Robust abilities in problem-solving, sales, and negotiation.
  • Outstanding diagnostic abilities and a methodical, logical method for resolving issues.
  • Outstanding communication abilities
  • Outstanding ability to grasp and analyze industry information and economic patterns.
  • Robust formal presentation abilities to secure approval for solutions, both internally and externally.
  • Skills in team formation and coordination to engage and oversee product specialists.
  • Robust leadership and collaboration abilities at the senior executive level.
  • The capacity to think outside the box and recognize inventive answers.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce, and Management Programs (Necessary)
