POSITION: Renewable Energy Analyst

Job Description

Prime Frontier Group is in search of a motivated and technically proficient Renewable Energy Analyst to assist in the design, modeling, and enhancement of renewable energy systems throughout Africa and additional emerging markets.

This entry-level role is perfect for early-career individuals wanting to assist in clean energy implementation, energy access initiatives, and project development in solar, hybrid, wind, and storage systems. You will participate in feasibility assessments, system modeling, energy projections, design assistance, and sustainability documentation, collaborating on internal projects and client-oriented activities.

Overview of the Role 

You’ll contribute to the technical foundation of clean energy initiatives, helping with energy modeling, system layout optimization, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder communication. This position connects engineering and analytical tasks, working alongside internal teams and external partners to provide significant, viable solutions.

Main Duties

Sustainable System Development & Modeling 

  • Help with the arrangement, dimensions, and setup of solar PV, hybrid, and battery systems.
  • Perform resource evaluations utilizing satellite data and existing site information.
  • Create technical models utilizing tools such as HOMER, PVsyst, or RETScreen.
  • Execute simulations for predicting yield, balancing load, and planning dispatch.

Viability & Technical Assessment

  • Assist in the development of feasibility studies (both off-grid and grid-connected).
  • Perform LCOE, ROI, and NPV analyses for various energy system scenarios.
  • Evaluate hardware and design approaches in relation to market trends and performance standards.
  • Evaluate and enhance technical assumptions for project proposals and pilot programs.

Analysis of Data & Enhancement of Performance 

  • Utilize Python, Excel, or Google Sheets for cleaning, modeling, and visualizing data.
  • Conduct performance sensitivity testing under different loads, irradiance, and climate conditions.
  • Assist in creating diagnostic reports for O&M, predicting errors, or instances of underperformance.
  • Assist in evaluating remote monitoring by utilizing essential SCADA or IoT system data.

Environmental and Sustainability Regulations

  • Aid in ESIA documentation and planning for mitigation.
  • Assist in sustainability reporting for frameworks led by internal teams and investors (ESG, SDGs)
  • Participate in reporting procedures and compliance evaluations aligned with ISO 50001.

  • Prepare technical memos, executive summaries, and internal research and development notes.
  • Develop system diagrams and conceptual visuals for proposals and presentations.

What We Seek

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a similar technical area.
  • Pertinent coursework or thesis related to system design, energy modeling, or hybrid systems.

Experience 

  • 0–3 years in design, analysis, or technical consulting within renewable energy
  • Experience with solar or hybrid systems is an advantage.
  • Students in their final year or recent graduates with impressive portfolios are invited to apply.

Technical Abilities 

  • Skill in Excel/Google Sheets and a scripting language (ideally Python)
  • Familiarity or instruction with HOMER, PVsyst, RETScreen, or comparable simulation software.
  • Knowledge of GIS tools or satellite information (e.g., Global Solar Atlas, Solargis)
  • Capability to understand technical illustrations, single-line schematics, and Bill of Materials.

Employment Arrangement & Remuneration

Telecommuting: 

  • Completely remote, yet might necessitate scheduling across different time zones.
  • Required to have a personal laptop and a stable internet connection.
  • Salary Range (Yearly): According to the local currency range: RWF 3.0M – 4.0M | XOF 1.56M – 1.92M | GHS 30,000–40,000 | UGX 8.64M – 12.96M | KES 300K – 390K
  • Bonus: As much as 25% depending on project and internal contributions.
