AFREhealth is looking for an experienced Senior Program Manager to:

Job Summary

The Senior Program Manager will oversee AFREhealth’s projects in Africa, providing technical and management support to achieve project goals. Additionally, this role involves ensuring that the planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of projects follow donor rules, quality standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities

Project Management: 

  • Help with strategic planning and lead project design and execution.
  • Manage the project team and support project leaders to ensure good project delivery.
  • Keep track of project progress and ensure they stay on schedule and budget.
  • Create high-quality reports and materials to share project results.
  • Ensure all projects meet internal standards, donor requirements, and government laws.
  • Identify and manage risks and issues.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation efforts to give feedback for effective program planning.
  • Coordinate Technical Working Groups for smooth collaboration.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee grant management to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Support the development of contracts and manage relationships with partners.
  • Keep updated on donor and government rules and inform project teams.
  • Ensure timely submission of project reports.
  • Help develop and manage project budgets, ensuring costs are tracked.

Resource Mobilization:

  • Identify funding opportunities and support grant writing efforts to submit proposals on time.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong commitment to AFREhealth’s mission and health workforce development.
  • At least 7 years of experience in managing complex health projects in different countries, focusing on building skills and providing services.
  • A master’s degree in health education, program management, public health, or a related field.
  • Experience managing donor grants across multiple countries.
  • Knowledge of donor rules, including those of the US government and private foundations.
  • Then, proficient in project management methods and practices.
  • Skilled in financial management related to grants.

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of French or Portuguese is a bonus.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Great organizational and analytical skills.
  • Good team player and able to work in diverse environments.
  • High integrity and confidentiality.
  • Lastly, willing to take on extra responsibilities.
