POSITION: Human Resource Officer
Job Summary:
As a Human Resource Officer in retail, you will be important in improving the experience of employees.
You will handle different HR tasks like hiring new employees, helping them start their jobs, managing relationships with workers, overseeing how well employees are doing, and making sure we follow labour laws.
Your job is to help the retail team do their best by using good HR practices.
Tasks and Duties
Finding and Choosing Workers:
- Work with department managers to find out how many staff are needed.
- Oversee the whole hiring process, which includes posting job openings, checking applications, interviewing candidates, and helping new employees get started.
- Do background checks and check references.
Getting New Employees Started and Training Them:
- Create and set up programs to help new employees adjust easily when they start their jobs.
- Organize training sessions and workshops to help employees improve their skills and knowledge.
Performance Management
- Help create and put into place ways to evaluate employee performance.
- Help set performance goals and carry out evaluations.
- Keep an eye on how well employees are doing and share updates about their performance.
Getting Started, Learning, and Growing:
- Make and use simple onboarding plans that work well.
- Find out what training workers need and organize training programs for them.
- Help employees grow in their jobs by providing guidance and training.
- Work with outside training companies to make sure employees get the latest training that relates to their jobs.
Making Rules and Following Them:
- Make sure to follow labour laws and rules in the industry.
- Help create and update HR rules and steps.
- Keep employee records and HR databases updated and in line with the law.
Pay and Benefits:
- Help employees understand their benefit choices and solve any problems they have.
- Teach workers about the company’s benefits and rewards.
- Help manage payroll and benefits programs.
- Help with salary surveys and comparisons.
HR Metrics and Reporting
- Gather and study HR data to help with making decisions.
- Create reports for management about different HR tasks.
Employee Relations
- Be the main person to talk to for employee questions and issues.
- Create a good workplace by listening to employee problems and fixing disagreements.
- Encourage activities that involve employees and support the company values.
Managing Employee Information and Records
- Keep employee records and update them when necessary.
- Create, put into action, oversee, and keep track of employee leave information (like vacation, sick days, and maternity leave).
Other Tasks
- Do other related tasks that the Head of Administration or their appointed person may ask for from time to time.
Required Skills and Experience
SKILLS
- Has worked successfully as an HR officer or in another HR role.
- Understanding of HR tasks like salaries and benefits, hiring, and training.
- Great at solving conflicts
- Knowing the rules about workers and how to handle discipline.
- Good at using MS Office; knowing HRMS is an advantage.
- Excellent skills in organizing and managing time
- Great at talking and getting along with people.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions
- You need at least a Bachelor’s degree in business, social studies, or a related area. – It’s good to have HR certifications like PHR, CIHRM, or SHRM-CP.
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar job.

- You might need to work some evenings and weekends during busy times.
