POSITION: Mechanical Technician

Job Description

GGBL maintains two locations and distributes four types of beverages: stout, lager, RTD, and malt, as well as spirits. The company is Ghana’s largest brewer, accounting for around 75% of the market.

Ghana’s economy is predicted to grow at a mid to high single-digit rate in a driven environment.

As the Supply function, we will produce high-quality items in a safe environment at cost-effective rates, on schedule, and without faults.

Role Purpose

The ideal Mechanical Technician would have prior packaging operations and engineering experience. He is in charge of maintaining equipment and machinery on shift to carry out packaging activities to fulfill rising volume and quality demands in a dependable and cost-effective manner. He takes part in department-wide continuous improvement efforts such as PIPs. Furthermore, he should organize and execute his training and development.

Key Accountabilities

  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Standards. Frequently say and articulate that safety is our top priority. Be visible as a safety ambassador by always behaving safely and constantly questioning others’ unsafe practices and behaviour, reprimanding where warranted. Follow the site’s safety guidelines, as well as the operational protocols for systems and equipment.
  • Must commit to creating safe and quality products by following all instructions pertaining to the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Provide a comprehensive production service on the plant and equipment to which they are primarily assigned, including operating and cleaning, carrying out maintenance schedules, responding to breakdowns, continuously assessing and supervising plant performance, and attending to all other process duties in a timely manner.
  • Deliver the best possible plant operation by increasing plant availability and efficiency via the implementation of planned preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Optimise product quality by continual observation and attention to detail, and provide RFT on quality and control parameters. Respond to nonconformances in a timely manner to keep the process on track. Apply, record, and share your learnings to avoid recurrence.
  • Manage the materials, components, and spares required by their plant and equipment, including the ability to draw down stock from locally furnished “bins” and be liable for any stock drawn down.
  • Show flexibility in terms of availability, attitude, and work methods, and help colleagues with breakdowns, maintenance, and issue resolution on their equipment.
  • Actively pursue individual and team training and development, as well as participation in competency-based training programs. Support the development of other team members and cultivate strong connections with coworkers, including contractors.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • HND in a relevant Engineering subject area with shown experience/competence in Operations, Maintenance, Process Control, and Performance Measurement in a brewery, beverage, or food production industry.
  • Show a thorough awareness of the Permit to Work system and GGBL SHE policies, statutory requirements, and duties.
  • Show an awareness of collaborative ideas, continuous improvement, preventive maintenance, and issue solutions.

Barriers to Success in the Role

  • Personal flexibility is required to operate in a tightly staffed manufacturing setting with fluctuating production and sales demand.
  • Individual and team training and development, as well as the sharing and application of newly gained skills, are not prioritized.
  • Inability to communicate and form positive relationships.
  • A lack of grasp of the commercial and demand agenda within the company.
