Job Vacancy at International Finance Corporation

POSITION: E T Consultant

Description

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution concentrating on the private sector in emerging nations. We operate in over 100 countries, leveraging our resources, experience, and influence to create markets and opportunities. Our purpose is to use the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in a liveable world. For additional information, go to www.ifc.org.

The IFC has launched an ambitious new plan to boost investment activity by creating markets, including in Low-Income Countries (LICs) and Fragile and Conflict Situations (FCS). This new strategy necessitates a shift in our approach to actively create, deepen, and expand markets and projects rather than waiting for clients to suggest initiatives for IFC to finance. This plan also calls for upstream collaboration with governments and World Bank colleagues to facilitate private sector solutions and finance. We refer to this strategy as the “Cascade.” Working with customers, we shall initially seek private sector solutions to development concerns where they are appropriate and effective, and reserve public financing for projects only where other options are inadequate.

The Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services sector team is looking for an Investment Analyst to work closely with IFC’s Investment Officers, who are in charge of originating, structuring, negotiating, and overseeing the Corporation’s investment projects. Investment Analysts identify new initiatives and support Investment Officers with transaction execution and portfolio monitoring.

Location: The post will be headquartered in Accra, Ghana.

IFC hires investment analysts around the world on two-year contracts that can be extended for up to four years. Investment analysts usually quit their positions after completing their contracts to obtain a graduate degree or more work experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fully knows the financial aspects of investment or advice transactions, including how to do market analysis and assess the financial health of a firm or project opportunity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial statement analysis, accounting, finance, financial modelling, DCF, and similar company analysis to aid in decision-making.
  • Capability to undertake market and industry research and analysis.
  • The ability to show attention to detail, intelligent scenario analysis, and pride in the quality of one’s work.
  • Capability to examine and synthesize debt pricing benchmarks and equities trading data.
  • A basic grasp of how specific investments or advice transactions in various industries and sectors affect economic, market, and social growth, as well as how to apply mapping methods to evaluate market circumstances, gaps, and business prospects.
  • Determine the data collection requirements to support the assessment of financial, operational, development impact, and market information, as well as pertinent ES&G issues. Coordinate with the client to gather the necessary information.
  • Displays active listening skills by being attentive and listening to others to identify client and stakeholder needs.
  • Capable of extracting and summarizing massive volumes of information from numerous sources to create business documents and presentations.
  • Capable of writing logically and comprehensively while remaining concise.
  • Capable of presenting facts effectively and creatively using visuals and tables.
  • Extract lessons from previous IFC investments or advisory assignments, as well as other evaluative work, to help structure straightforward transactions.

Selection Criteria:

  • A bachelor’s or equivalent degree.
  • Up to three years of work experience in a financial institution, preferably in investment projects.
  • Ability to create sophisticated financial models.
  • A strong interest in development financing and intercultural environments.
  • Highly motivated, committed to the highest ethical standards, and capable of working well in multicultural teams and across boundaries.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, especially in corporate/project finance.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and simply, both orally and in writing.
  • Fluency in English is essential; competence in French is desired.
