The Women Support and Activist Group (WOSAG) is a women-led local NGO dedicated to women’s rights that assists in a variety of development areas, with a focus on women’s rights, issues, and self-identified priorities, primarily in Northern Ghana. WOSAG collaborates with women’s groups, local communities, and development partners to improve the quality of life for women and other vulnerable groups by strengthening grassroots institutional capacity, promoting human rights, and ensuring rights and access to sustainable natural resource use and management. Over the years, we have helped hundreds of women alter their lives.

WOSAG envisions a world in which women and girls live well, and their rights are recognized.

Mission: To provide women and girls with platforms and opportunities to mobilize and take action to enhance women’s rights and gender equality in Northern Ghana.

Job Description.

WOSAG Ghana seeks an Executive Director. The ideal applicant will give oversight and guidance to WOSAG’s project implementation and management teams. The Programme Coordinator will be in charge of ensuring that WOSAG programme activities are carried out to a high degree while also maintaining close and productive relationships with personnel, donors, partners, communities, government agencies, and the governing board.

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees and is in charge of fundraising, significant Programme deliverables, and major strategic development in the organization. The Executive Director serves as the Board’s Secretary and the primary point of contact between staff and the Board.

Duties and responsibilities

Technical responsibility.

  • Support the development and direction of organizations and programmes, such as reviewing strategies, generating funding proposals, and maintaining external and local collaborations. Lead WOSAG to secure financing and collaborations, both locally and internationally.
  • Lead the response to funding calls for applications or proposals that align with WOSAG’s program implementation areas, vision, and goal.
  • Support project personnel and partners in developing the ability of local structures and local committees to produce objectives at the community level.
  • Oversee the effective monitoring and learning of programming activities. One of the Executive Director’s most significant responsibilities will be to monitor programme execution to ensure that goals and expected outcomes are met.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining user guides and recommendations.
  • Provide support in managing relevant website content, creating and growing social media presence/profiles, and improving WOSAG visibility.
  • Work to ensure the organization’s legal compliance and good status with regulatory bodies.

Relationship and Project Management

  • Coordinate and maintain excellent working relationships with local communities, partners, government agencies, and other partners to ensure that project activities move forward smoothly and on time. The Executive Director will be in charge of ensuring that key stakeholders participate effectively in program development, implementation, and learning. The Executive Director will also hold regular meetings with all stakeholders to obtain periodic updates on activities, identify deviations from the work plan, and agree on corrective actions.
  • Project management and administration. The Executive Director, in collaboration with finance and administration staff, will oversee the Programme’s financial, contractual, and operational components. S/he will communicate and coordinate with the finance/administration team to monitor financial performance analysis, ensure timely resolution of financial discrepancies, and assist with the compilation of financial predictions as needed. S/he will oversee compliance with donor and relevant national legislation requirements, track performance against work plan deadlines, and manage technical quarterly and annual reporting as needed by the Board and funders.
  • Reporting. The Executive Director will be in charge of collecting data on process, change, and results performance metrics and reporting it to the Board, partners, and donors as needed.

External relations.

Manage WOSAG’s external contacts and dissemination efforts in-country. WOSAG’s main goal is to share the knowledge created by our activities. The Executive Director will help achieve this goal by acting as the project’s primary spokesman, adhering to WOSAG’s communication rules, and organizing multiple channels to solicit input from key stakeholders in areas relevant to our work. The Executive Director will also lead advocacy initiatives and network with like-minded organizations to bring pertinent concerns to a wider audience.

Required Skill or Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience implementing development projects/programs, three of which are in a field management capacity.
  • Exceptional project management skills and experience leading collaborative processes with different participants.
  • Deep understanding of youth development and protection issues in Ghana.
  • Ideal candidates will have prior experience working with government agencies, local governments, international development organizations, and poverty reduction and development trends in Northern Ghana, as well as Ghana as a whole.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant discipline is desired; otherwise, a Bachelor’s degree and equivalent work experience
  • Self-starter; takes ownership of deliverables and drives project results while simultaneously taking input from colleagues and partners.
  • Manages via influence, employs strong persuasive skills, and inspires continuous staff and partner excitement.
  • Interested in both specific implementation and a high-level strategic view of project operations.
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse stakeholders, including high-level policymakers, professionals in many sectors, and project beneficiaries/communities.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills are critical.
