VU Amsterdam International Student Scholarships 2024

In order to study in the Netherlands for the academic year starting in 2024, applications are now being accepted from appropriately qualified overseas candidates for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Masters Scholarships.

International students who are pursuing their academic careers in the Netherlands can use the scholarships provided by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to support their studies. For overseas students attending VU Amsterdam, there are a number of scholarships offered.

Category of Scholarships

At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, there are numerous scholarship programs available for prospective international master’s students. The awards comprise:

VU Fellowship Program

The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) provides gifted aspiring non-EU/EEA students with the one-of-a-kind opportunity to study for a Master’s degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. For the purpose of luring brilliant and highly motivated students, VU Amsterdam has pledged to contribute roughly 1 million euros. Only tuition is covered by the scholarship.

Holland Scholarship Programme

The Netherlands’ Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science, along with Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences, provide funding for the Holland Scholarship Program (HSP). Students who are applying to the Netherlands’ first year of a Master’s degree and who are not citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) are eligible for this award. The scholarship value is 5,000 euros per year or 10,000 euros for the total study year.

OTS, or the Orange Tulip Scholarship

Sponsorship for the Orange Tulip Scholarship program is provided by the VU Fellowship program. Now, outstanding students from India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Vietnam can apply for this competitive VUFP/OTS fellowship. Getting an OTS scholarship means paying no tuition.

Scholarships awarded by the Fulbright Foundation

By way of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the Fulbright Center annually receives 20 to 25 students from the United States in the Netherlands. 12 monthly payments of €1,300 will be made for the Fulbright grant. Up to €1,000 in international travel expenses will be covered. Furthermore, the $250 fee for the residence permit will be paid. The cost of tuition varies depending on the program; it is not waived.

Orange Knowledge Program

The program is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a part of its strategy for development cooperation. A Dutch non-profit organization dedicated to internationalizing education, Nuffic, is in charge of running the subsidy scheme. It provides support for long-term, demand-driven collaborations between Dutch knowledge institutions and groups in the 19 member nations.

NN Future Matters Scholarship

Students from the chosen countries who applied for a Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Data Science, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Duisenberg honors track in Quantitative Risk Management, Business Administration, specialization in Financial Management, Business Administration, or Duisenberg honors track in Financial Markets and Regulation are eligible for the scholarship, which is funded by NN and managed by Nuffic. It costs €5,000 to receive the scholarship.

Grants By Desmond Fortes

The FMO Entrepreneurial Development Bank is the program’s funding source. Aiming to support ambitious individuals from Asia and Africa who have applied to the Master’s degree in Environment and Resource Management at VU Amsterdam and work for one of FMO’s client companies.

Qualification Criteria

The requirements listed (below) must be met by applicants in order for them to be eligible for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Masters Scholarships:

  • You are not qualified for the reduced tuition rate because you do not have a passport from the EU or the EEA.
  • Your nationality is not Dutch.
  • Your intellectual prowess can be demonstrated (a Dutch 8 GPA is required).
  • The first year of a full-time Master’s degree with an English teaching component is open to you, either conditionally or unconditionally.
  • Your desired degree was not earned in the Netherlands, according to your application.
  • A preparation program is not required before beginning your master’s degree studies.

Notably, some scholarships include extra requirements for eligibility. It would be wise to carefully review the particular requirements for each of the aforementioned scholarships.

How to Apply:

Interested and qualified individuals must apply to and be accepted into a master’s degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in order to be considered for the award. Please be aware that in order to be eligible for the VUFP scholarship, you must already have received conditional admission to the Master’s program.
