These candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s program with a thesis requirement of at least 90 points. This can be either the second half of a Master’s degree program where the student will take a thesis course worth 90 points or more, or a one-year Master’s program with a thesis of 90 points or more. Course codes 591 or 592 are commonly used to identify the master’s thesis.

It is crucial to note that, as long as it is conducted in accordance with the University’s requirements for a Master’s by Thesis (please refer to section 6 of those regulations), students pursuing a portfolio course worth 90 points or more are also eligible. However, these funds are not available to students taking a 60-point dissertation course.

Ideally, applicants should have earned a Bachelor’s degree or the first phase of a Master’s degree from an accredited New Zealand university, exhibiting academic achievement comparable to a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 7.0. Benefits of the scholarship

The Scholarship covers tuition costs (applied to domestic fees for 120 points only) as well as a $15,000 tax-free stipend for one year. The student will get the scholarship for the time they are enrolled in their thesis course, which is for one year.

The scholarship stipend will be distributed to beneficiaries in monthly installments, with the Scholarships Office sending the first payment soon after receiving confirmation of enrollment. The Scholarships Office will deal directly with the University on the payment of fees. The difference between the full international student fee and the domestic fee must be paid by international students, excluding those from Australia.

The Wellington Master’s by Thesis Scholarship cannot be co-tenured with any other scholarships that have a total value of more than $6,000 without the University Scholarships Committee’s permission. It is significant to remember that co-tenure with other prizes may result in a decrease in the scholarship stipend’s value.

Application Process:

The Community Force platform is required for all scholarship applications. A fully completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the designated closing date in order to be taken into consideration. Applications that are submitted after the deadline or that are not full will not be considered.
