Regardless of socioeconomic status, these scholarships provide cash awards to students participating in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Integrated Master’s programs who demonstrate extraordinary academic accomplishment.

Additionally, each of University Porto’s 14 schools and colleges gives Incentive Prizes to the top first-year students. During the celebration on University Day, awards that are equal to the cost of the yearly tuition are given out.
To enable equal access to our courses and to recognize the excellence of those students who have demonstrated remarkable academic accomplishment, the University of Porto supports and/or sponsors a wide spectrum of financial aid for its students and researchers.
Among other sources of assistance, University of Porto students and researchers are eligible to apply for the following scholarships:
1 . Scholarships SASUP
You are eligible to apply for a study scholarship provided by the Social Support Services of the University of Porto (SASUP) if you are enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Integrated Master’s program at the University of Porto. These scholarships come in the form of a regular cash transfer that will help cover the costs of enrolling in the programme.
The recipients of these scholarships must be Portuguese or European Union citizens, stateless people, or citizens of nations having cooperation agreements that provide for the reciprocal application of this benefit (students with international student status are not eligible). The deadlines and selection criteria for the scholarship are posted on the SASUP website each year.
2. Scholarships for merit
Each year, U.Porto students receiving the highest grades are given merit scholarships. Regardless of socioeconomic status, these scholarships provide cash awards to students participating in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Integrated Master’s programs who demonstrate extraordinary academic accomplishment.

3 . Science Fellowships
Research scholarships are given by the University of Porto to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. These fellowships are intended to support scientific training in Portuguese research initiatives or institutions of science and technology.
The scholarship is typically granted for one year, is renewable for up to three years, and cannot be given for fewer than three consecutive months.
Other Resources
Aside from study scholarships, SASUP also offers a Social Support Fund for students who did not meet the requirements for the SASUP scholarships and who are now in a precarious financial situation.
Through the formation of national and international partnerships or consortia, students can also have their studies paid for by study and research scholarships provided by external institutions, governmental organizations, or partner institutions of the University. Students from Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOP), for example, benefit from this kind of help.
The Cames Institute, the Portuguese Communities Portal, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Santander Universities Programme, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Millennium BCP Foundation, or the UT Austin Portugal Programme, the CMU Portugal Programme, and the MIT Portugal Programme are among the organizations that provide this kind of support.
