The University of Ghana seeks applications from suitable individuals to serve as Legal Officers.
- Position: Legal Officer.
- Reporting to: Legal Counsel.
- Location: Accra.
Job Summary
The Office of the Legal Counsel reports to the Vice-Chancellor and provides legal counsel, guidance, and representation in all University matters and procedures. The successful applicant will be a part of the team and will help the Legal Counsel in carrying out the duties of the Office of the Legal Counsel.
DUTIES
The successful applicant will:
- Assist the Legal Counsel in providing legal advice on all university matters.
- Draft, examine, and interpret any agreements affecting the University.
- Create, examine, or interpret policies affecting the university.
- Represent or secure the University’s appropriate representation in all dispute resolution actions, including out-of-court settlements.
- Provide legal support for disciplinary proceedings involving Senior Members, Senior Staff, Junior Members (including contract employees), and other University members charged with misconduct under University Laws.
- Streamline the functioning of the University’s Appeals Board.
- Facilitate the work of the University’s Anti-Corruption Committee.
- Serve on planning and policymaking committees.
- Evaluate University projects, choices, and processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
- Serve on relevant University committees.
- Carry out any additional duties that the Legal Counsel may designate.
Qualifications & Experience
To practice law in Ghana, candidates must have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, a professional law qualification, and at least three years of relevant work experience following pupillage.
Required knowledge, abilities, and skills:
- The position requires a high level of integrity, as the holder will be exposed to confidential and sensitive information.
- Maintain professional behavior in all situations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of governance and decision-making processes at UG.
- Proven analytical skills to assimilate detailed information and identify key issues.
- Highly organized, efficient, and resourceful.
