Company Description
Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (“UMA”) is a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International that is responsible for underground development and production for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
Position Description
UMA is looking for an Underground Heavy Machine Equipment (HME) Trainer who is certified, experienced, and driven to join our Safety Team. This is a Fixed Term employment in Obuasi with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi. Trainer for Underground Heavy Machine Equipment (HME)
The incumbent will be responsible for performing on-the-job training and assessing Underground Operators, as well as creating, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving training techniques, reporting to the Senior HSE &T Coordinator. The incumbent will place a significant emphasis on compliance to ensure that all staff, including employees and subcontractors, have the necessary skills to perform safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Conduct and assist operating staff training and assessment on Heavy Machine Equipment (HME) Vehicles: Truck, Agitator, Loader, Jumbo, and Integrated Tool Career (IT) Operators.
Conduct a competency requirements assessment, identify skill shortages, and deliver realistic and practical training, as well as accurately record and show competency data.
Provide on-site inductions to ensure that all employees and contractors are site compliant and capable of performing the necessary tasks/roles.
Aid the HSE&T Coordinator with safety training programs.
Through crew presentations, communications, and knowledge sharing, provide HSE&T training and mentorship to operating workers.
Ensure that proper training information is entered into the company’s training database.
Create and disseminate daily, weekly, and monthly training reports, as well as presentations on HSE subjects that inform staff about workplace injuries, new initiatives, and system changes.
Collaborate with site operations management to promote UMA’s safety values and culture.
Required Qualifications or Experience
- Experience operating Heavy Machine Equipment (HME) vehicles such as trucks, (IT) Integrated Tool Operators, agitators, loaders, and jumbos is required.
- Extensive experience training equipment operators in Hard Rock Underground Mines.
- Must be able to drive a manual SUV underground and have a valid Ghanaian driving and operating license (C & E Classes).
- Capability to instruct, coach, and guide members of the crew.
- Training and assessment certification, as well as mobile HME.
- A current First Aid Certificate is required.
- Work ethics must be solid, and you must be able to converse politely with coworkers.
- Most roles require a solid understanding of underground mining practices.
- Ability to work alone without supervision as well as in groups.
- Strong observation and analytical abilities, as well as an acute attention to detail.
- A high emphasis on safety and hazard identification.
- Ability to operate under pressure and a strong will to succeed.
- Capability to work both during the day and at night.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of the Republic of Ghana’s Mining Act and related laws.
