Study In USA: Ohio University Scholarships 2024

The Ohio University scholarship application process is open for the 2024 academic year. Interested students from other countries, as well as residents, are encouraged to apply.

About Ohio University Scholarships

Ohio University provides funding through a range of scholarships for individuals who are academically and creatively inclined. Aside from that, the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships grants awards with particular requirements. Most university scholarships are applied for through your freshman admissions application.

Concerning Ohio University

Eleven men got together in Boston’s Bunch of Grapes Tavern in 1786 with the idea of developing the region then known as Ohio Country, which was to the north of the Ohio River and the west of the Allegheny Mountains. The Ohio Company, under the leadership of Rufus Putnam and Manasseh Cutler, petitioned Congress to act on the proposed settlement.

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787, which stipulated that “schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged,” was the final result and allowed for the territory’s settlement and governance.

Ohio was admitted as a state in 1803, and on February 18, 1804, the Ohio General Assembly approved a law creating “The Ohio University.” Three students, one professor named Jacob Lindley, and one building comprised the university’s initial enrollment in 1808. Thomas Ewing, who was among the first two graduates of the university, went on to become a senator from the United States and earned a reputation for serving in the cabinet and as an advisor to four presidents.

John Newton Templeton was the first black graduate of Ohio University and just the third black man to graduate from a college in the United States, having been founded twenty-four years earlier, in 1828.

Margaret Boyd graduated with a B.A. from the university in 1873, making history as the first female graduate. Saki Taro Murayama of Japan was the first foreign graduate of the university, having graduated in 1895.
