Study In USA: Lehigh University Scholarships 2024

Applications are open for interested students to apply for the 2024 Lehigh University Scholarships. Applicants are encouraged to read thoroughly and follow the instructions below for a successful application.

About Lehigh University Scholarships

Undergraduate students can get scholarships and other forms of gift help based on their academic performance. As a whole, we look at a student’s contributions outside of school, as well as recommendations and personal essays, when deciding who gets merit help.

Concerning Lehigh University

Lehigh University was founded in the years after the Civil War when the US was both rebuilding from the chaos of the war and shining as a new economic power. Better transportation on the nation’s rivers and trains made it possible for the massive increase in the use of iron and coal in industry during this time, which contributed to the growth.

With the help of the times, Asa Packer, founder of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, was able to both shape and benefit from them. By 1865, he had both the vision and the money to give back to the area that had helped him become rich. For the “intellectual and moral improvement” of young men in the Lehigh Valley, he gave $500,000 to build a new university. The brand-new school was just called Lehigh University.

Since then, 125 years ago, Lehigh has grown into one of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Graduates of Lehigh have run both the Ford and Chrysler companies and planned the building of the Panama Canal’s huge locks. They have also been leaders and innovators in business, engineering, politics, the arts, education, space research, and many other fields.

Today, Lehigh still educates thousands of young students who come to South Mountain because they want to learn at a research university that is known around the world and live and grow in a college community that is active and full of life.

About Asa Packer

Leaders like Asa Packer, who started Lehigh, had big ideas and were smart. These qualities helped them succeed in business and politics, and they later helped him create one of the best colleges in the country.

Packer came from a poor background. He was born into a poor family in Connecticut in 1805 and worked as a carpenter and farmer before entering the Pennsylvania canal business boom in the 1830s. Packer started as a canal boat pilot, but he quickly bought his boat and then a whole fleet of them.

In the 1850s, he used his business sense again to great effect when he made the brave choice to fund the building of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, which would serve the area’s huge coal industry. It turned out to be a smart bet. As the canals died out, the railroads grew, and Packer made a lot of money.

In the public eye, he also gained more power at the same time. Packer ran for and won two terms in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. He also worked as an associate judge in Carbon County and then for two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

But the university he built is his most important achievement.
