Social Cohesion Director at Chemonics International
Chemonics is looking for a director of institutional strengthening for an upcoming USAID program called Strengthening Regional Peace and Stability in West Africa. The goal of the project is to get technical services to help the USAID/West Africa Regional Peace and Governance Office (RPGO) support the efforts of West Africans to deal with the risks of instability caused by democratic backsliding and conflict and to give priority to targeted conflict and violence prevention, peacebuilding, and preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) interventions across the sub-region.
The Sub-Purpose 2 Social Cohesion Director will strengthen community, national, and regional peacebuilding and conflict-resolution mechanisms and capacities in key West African countries. They will be in charge of positive youth development programs for SRPS, provide technical oversight, and help with their development and implementation. This job will be based in Accra, which is in Ghana. We want people who really want to make a difference in the lives of people all over the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Analyzes and evaluates the need for building up people’s skills and makes suggestions for targeted interventions to make sure they are in line with the goals and objectives of the program.
- Helps the G5 Sahel Executive Secretariat, ECOWAS, and national government and non-government partners build their P/CVE and other skills.
- Provides technical expertise in community development, with a focus on delivering capacity-building approaches to municipalities
- Recommends follow-up capacity-building activities that could keep and improve the delivery of essential services or create more economic opportunities.
- Watches and analyzes how the region’s needs for building capacity are changing quickly.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s degree in international development, peacebuilding, conflict management or resolution, public administration, or a closely related field is preferred.
- At least eight years of experience running programs or projects in West Africa that build capacity, promote peace, strengthen civil society, involve the community, or do something else that is technically relevant.
- At least five years of experience researching, analyzing, designing, and running peace and conflict programs, with a strong background in context and conflict analysis, conflict-sensitive research methods, iterative research design, qualitative research methods, and qualitative data analysis.
- Shown skills in building the capacity of organizations and working well with multilateral institutions and national governments
- Experience overseeing things like training, mentoring, and organizational assessments that build people’s skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels; tact and diplomacy are essential.
- It is necessary to have shown that you can meet your goals by working remotely with key stakeholders.
- Strong writing and presentation skills for both internal and external audiences
- English and French must be spoken and written fluently, and Arabic must also be known.
