Securing an ECA for PR and STEM professionals’ eligibility | Canada Immigration Guide

The eligibility requirements for PR professionals and those working in STEM fields are intertwined. Candidates who submit their credentials to WES for evaluation may be eligible to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System’s overall score of the candidate is a crucial factor. As a result, receiving an ECA from World Education Services will result in a higher total score on the CRS. In addition to this, the candidates will have a good possibility of being granted an ITA for PR.

Category-based selection draws under Express Entry

The first Express Entry standard draw was held in 2015, and ever since then, IRCC has been holding these drawings to select people to invite to submit an application for permanent residency in Canada. Candidates must meet the requirements of at least one of the three primary programs in order to be considered eligible for these standard drawings held by Express Entry. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Career and Education Connection, and the FSTP. In order to enter the Express Entry pool, an applicant must first determine whether or not they are eligible for the program. After that, they are given a CRS score and must wait anxiously to find out whether or not they will be offered an ITA.

On the other hand, category-based draws for Express Entry didn’t start until June 2023, despite what was previously stated. These were an attempt to tackle the long-term gaps in Canada’s labor market that have existed. The key distinction between the regular drawings and these category draws is that the latter focuses on a candidate’s previous work experience in a particular industry. The standard draws do not make this distinction. Additionally, having a strong command of French is still an essential qualification for entering these draws. In addition, the IRCC established five occupational categories in an effort to alleviate the current labor crisis in Canada. The following is a list of them:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM professionals
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food
  • Trades
  • Transport

Is it possible for an ECA to result in selection in a draw that is based on categories?

CRS scores are still considered important, despite the fact that the Express Entry Category-based selection prioritizes previous job experience in a certain industry. The candidate’s CRS score is still very important for determining whether or not they are eligible to receive an ITA for a category-based draw.

Increasing one’s chances of being granted an ITA for permanent residency by obtaining an ECA from WES is without a doubt going to do just that. Simply put, this is due to the fact that an ECA gives Express Entry candidates the opportunity to earn CRS points for education completed in a foreign nation. For the most part, candidates with an overseas education are required to obtain an ECA in order to receive CRS points.

If you have recent work experience in one of the following STEM jobs, you may be eligible to enter draws that are based on STEM categories.

Notably, recent job experience denotes approximately six months of full-time employment or continuous work experience in an equivalent part-time occupation within the past three years. In addition, recent work experience must have been obtained within the last year.

Applicants in the STEM categories, including the prerequisites needed to be eligible for them

In order to be accepted, applicants to Express Entry who are doing so under the STEM category are expected to meet the essential qualifying conditions. They are responsible for ensuring that they meet all of the standards necessary to participate in any one of these three Express Entry programs, and they are accountable for this responsibility. The Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Federal Skilled Worker Program are the three programs that make up these federally funded initiatives.

If a candidate does not have the required amount of relevant work experience in one of the vocations that are on the approved list, they will not be considered eligible for the STEM draws. Candidates must have obtained the necessary amount of work experience. Before a candidate may be considered eligible for a draw, they need to fulfill this condition first. You can take a look at this rundown of the various occupations available right now. On the other hand, this work experience might have been gained in Canada or in a whole different nation entirely.

Obtaining an ECA from WES

The Independent Regulatory Complaints Commission (IRCC) has recognized WES as one of the top five ECA suppliers in the country. The IRCC awarded WES with this honor. If the ECA is started as soon as possible after WES has been provided with all of the required paperwork and funds, it is possible for it to be completed within a maximum of thirty calendar days if it is started immediately. In addition to this, WES offers a comprehensive list of documents that are required, a web application that is created in French, and a team of customer care professionals who are fluent in a variety of languages.
