ROLE: General Finance Manager
SFC is currently expanding its distribution and sales and has opened new offices outside of Ghana in Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and the Netherlands. The General Finance Manager will be responsible for supervising and improving all aspects of the financial management, accounting, closing, and reconciliation processes in collaboration with these branch offices, the Country Finance Manager, the HR and Administration Manager, and the Ghana Finance Department team.
The Managing Director and the Internal Auditor & Compliance Supervisor will report to the GFM. This role will report directly to the Managing Director (Raphael Gonzalez) and will be based in Accra, Ghana, but will require frequent travel to other office sites both within and outside of Ghana.
The position will be focused on five areas:
Analysis: Implementing and improving ROI analyses for key operational spend areas such as trade spend, sales promotions, media investment, and other marketing investment; as well as analysis of new projects such as capital investments, IT systems, new business opportunities, and other investment decisions such as potential M&A.
Reporting: providing important decision-makers with timely reporting on sales and profitability by channel, customer, and product line. The GFM will also be involved in the creation of a monthly reporting package that includes a detailed breakdown of performance versus budget and the preceding year. Before reporting, ensure that all accounts have been reconciled. To avoid penalties, the GFM will ensure that all returns are filed with local authorities in each nation on time.
Planning: Enhance the budgeting and forecasting process and assist in instilling this discipline throughout the organization. Participate in the three- to five-year strategic planning process. As a developing firm, SFC requires appropriate cash flow management in coordination with all SFC offices, with a special emphasis on the Production and Commercial Departments.
Accounting: Inventory and cost accounting will be a major focus. This is a vital role in the finance department of this dynamic and rapidly expanding corporation. The general finance manager must have a business partner mindset and be able to collaborate cross-functionally in the organization.
Funding: Another critical area is securing finances and grants for various projects that improve the economic, social, and environmental environments of the communities with which SFC works.
Particular Responsibilities:
- Compile the necessary information to create a regular and simple reporting framework that highlights key financial and operational performance measures, such as sales and profitability by client and channel, trade expenditure performance, and other KPIs.
- Manage financial flow carefully to ensure production funds are available.
- Assist the Managing Director and executive team with crucial financial decisions.
- Support monthly financial processes, reporting, and analysis to ensure that transactions are correctly documented on financial statements.
- Implement, document, and uphold accounting policies and processes.
- Drive cost-cutting improvements by offering ad-hoc analysis and support.
- Create metrics to be used in performing root cause analysis on deviations from standard costs.
- Oversee the financial aspects of physical inventory reconciliations and cycle counts.
- Collaborate with production and supply chain to generate precise costs for each product.
- Control and monitor costs at all levels to improve the company’s performance.
- Implementing and upgrading conventional cost analysis, including labor and overhead absorption.
- Supervise the safeguarding of the company’s assets and the establishment and maintenance of corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to guarantee compliance with International GAAP and other Ghanaian laws and regulations.
- Ensure that accounting systems and processes are continuously simplified through process improvement to achieve improved efficiencies and accuracy in reporting levels and timeliness (continuous improvement).
- Prepare board and investor papers in collaboration with other members of the finance team and the executive team.
- Support requests from external auditors.
- Secure donor funds and grants, as well as follow-up reports.
Qualifications and Experience

- 8+ years of combined financial management and accounting experience.
- MA/CPA certification is required.
- Experience in the manufacturing of items is preferred.
- Proven ability to work sleeves up in a fast-paced, high-growth organization
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team are required.
- Collaborative business partner skilled at establishing cross-functional ties to create company results.
- Excellent written and vocal communication abilities.
- Personal fortitude and a determination to succeed in business.
- Ability to routinely go to Tamale and other field production sites in Ghana and West Africa.
