POSITION: Project Officers

RUFA FOCUS AFRICA (RUFA) is a local non-profit group that started in 2021. RUFA wants to help women and young people in rural Africa gain freedom and improve their lives economically and socially. RUFA’s mission is to help women and young people in rural Africa. They focus on health and economic support to help these individuals reach their full potential and live healthy lives. RUFA is based in Kasoa, which is in the Central Region of Ghana. It also has offices in the Volta and Bono East regions.

Job Description

RUFA is looking for Project Officers to help with the Financial Inclusion for Last Mile Actors Program (FILMA). This program is a partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and will take place in the Hohoe, Ketu North, South Tongu, and North Tongu districts in the Volta Region of Ghana.

FILMA wants to help young women and men from poor communities who work in farming and related jobs. They aim to break down the challenges that make it hard for these people to get and use helpful financial services like loans, insurance, pensions, savings, and investments.

The Project Officer (PO) will work under the Project Manager to help carry out project activities in the field. The PO will oversee the work of Private Agricultural Service Providers (PASPs) to make sure that choosing communities and beneficiaries in the district goes smoothly. Under the FILMA project, the PO will help Private Agriculture Service Providers (PASPs) by showing them how to carry out the project step by step.

Working with the MEAL Project Officer, you will guide field staff during data collection and help with data entry when needed. The Project Officer will be in charge of building good relationships with the community. They will work closely with both outside groups and people within the organization, including local government, community members, and different CRS programs and support teams.

Roles and Main Duties:

  • Help communities get started, raise awareness, and train Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) in 4 areas in the Volta region.
  • Help and guide the community choice process for the FILMA project.
  • We will visit 40 communities to inform and engage people in order to choose 5,000 local members to join 200 savings and loan groups.
  • Creation of 200 savings and loan groups (4 groups for each community, with 25 members in each group).
  • Help PASPs find and register households that need assistance for FILMA.
  • Overseeing safety and protection issues related to the FILMA project and reporting any problems following the CRS Safeguarding Policy.
  • Help PASPs solve any problems that come up during the project in the community quickly.
  • Find problems in carrying out project tasks with the team in the field and suggest possible fixes. Bring up any serious issues that could affect the quality of the program and its success.
  • Help the MEAL officer gather information for weekly and monthly reports, plan field visits, and create work plans for each quarter.
  • Help gather regular information by collecting data on things like light levels, observation notes, attendance sheets, and activity tracking. Use different ways to collect both numbers and descriptive information.
  • Join activities to learn and think about the project.

  • Build and keep good relationships with people involved in the project, local leaders, and other community members and groups.
  • Build and keep good relationships with CRS coworkers and encourage a work environment that supports professional growth.
  • Build good connections with important people like government workers, service providers, vendors, non-profit organizations, and others in the area.

Required Languages: You need to speak the local language in that area well. Basic understanding of English.

Travel: This job will be mostly in the district, with up to 80% of the time spent visiting project communities and 20% at the RUFA office in Kasoa-CR.

Qualifications

  • You need a high school diploma. Having an HND or bachelor’s degree is better.
  • At least 2 years of useful work experience helping with projects, preferably in Agriculture. Experience with an international organization is a benefit.
  • At least 2 years of experience riding a motorcycle.
  • More education can replace some work experience.
  • Computer skills required
