RELEASE OF BECE PROVISIONAL RESULTS FOR SCHOOL AND PRIVATE CANDIDATES, 2023
The West African Examinations Council desires to inform the public that provisional results for candidates who sat for the BECE for both School and Private Candidates, 2023, have been issued. The Council will send school candidates’ results to their respective schools via the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education. Private Candidate results are available on the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org.
School candidates who wish to do so may view their results online at the Council’s website.
STATISTICS
The school examination attracted 600,900 candidates, 300,404 boys and 300,496 girls from 18,993 participating schools. There are 53 candidates with visual impairment, 366 with hearing impairment, and 54 with other special educational requirements included in this figure. The exam was held in 2,137 locations around the country. There were 3,366 candidates who did not show up.
There were 1,839 candidates who took the BECE for Private Candidates. There were 942 men and 897 women in total. The examination was held in fifteen locations, the majority of which were in provincial capitals. 61 candidates were absent from the total number of candidates who took the exam.
MALPRACTICES FOR EXAMINATION
Following the completion of investigations into various examples of irregularity discovered during the examination and script marking, the 34th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for BECE, convened on Monday, November 6, 2023, approved the following:
- Cancellation of Subject Results for 312 school candidates and 3 private candidates for bringing foreign materials into the examination hall, namely prepared notes, textbooks, and printed materials, or colluding with other candidates;
- Cancellation of Entire Results for 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate for possession of mobile phones in the examination hall;
- Withholding of Subject Results for 180 school candidates and 4 private candidates for various suspected offences
- Withholding of Entire Results of 110 school candidates and 2 private Candidates for various suspected offenses;
Meanwhile, the scripts of 22,270 applicants in specific courses are being reviewed for documented examples of widespread cheating. Based on the findings of the investigations, their results may be canceled or disseminated.
CAUTION
The Council warns all stakeholders to be careful of con artists who “promise to improve results for a fee.” Candidates should be aware that WAEC results are secure and may be verified.
CONCLUSION
The Council wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Security Agencies, Heads of School, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners, and all who assisted it in various ways in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
