Programme Policy Officer (Food Systems) at World Food Programme (WFP)
JOB PURPOSE:
To help with the design, management, and coordination of programs and interventions in the areas of sustainable food systems, food and nutrition security, smallholder farmers’ agricultural market support, and the development of resilient agri-food supply chain management systems that are in line with the Government’s development efforts and priorities and help reach the Zero Hunger Agenda.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Programme Policy Officer (Food Systems) will be in charge of the following tasks, which will be overseen by the Deputy Country Director and the Country Director as a whole.
- Lead efforts to get money by coming up with good technical proposals and ideas. This includes finding possible funding opportunities in areas like Sustainable Food Systems, Agriculture Market Access for Smallholder Farmers, and Nutrition-Focused Agricultural Value Chains, writing project proposals, and coming up with efficient ways to manage food supply chains that meet WFP’s goals and objectives.
- Raise WFP’s position as a leader in forums about Sustainable Food Systems, Food Security and Nutrition, Smallholder Farmers Agriculture Market Support, Resilience, and Sustainable Livelihoods.
- Coordinate the writing of communication materials and high-quality reports for both internal and external audiences, including reports for donors, for all actions under the CSP’s Sustainable Food Systems Strategic Outcome.
- Represent WFP in UN forums where it makes sense to do so and build partnerships with relevant parties.
- Lead the development of detailed Annual Activity Plans in alignment with available Budget and oversee their implementation; manage, monitor, and report on activity budgets and expenditures.
- Help plan WFP and keep an eye on how it’s put into action. Ghana’s Post-Harvest Management Interventions (PHMI) to best support vulnerable households, smallholder farmers, aggregators, and Government warehousing schemes.
- Find opportunities for South-South cooperation and connect WFP-supported public and private partners, such as smallholder farmers, aggregators, warehouse operators, processors, and appropriate government agencies, with them.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Needed Qualifications and Experience
- An advanced university degree in applied agriculture and social economics, economics, policy, or economic policy, ideally with a focus on agribusiness, food logistics systems, value chains, or other relevant fields.
Experiences needed to get into the job:
- Must have at least five (5) years of professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility in leading all administrative, organizational, and management tasks for food systems programs.
- Familiarity with tools for assessing and monitoring food sustainability that is based on knowledge of food systems, as well as the ability to support steps to deal with problems in food production, processing, distribution, marketing, and sales.
- A full understanding of how public-private partnerships work, including how to build relationships between sectors and businesses.
- Able to think critically, solve problems, be a leader, and handle projects.
- You need to be able to communicate well both in writing and in person.
- A team player who has shown they can work with people from different backgrounds.
