POSITION: Speech Project Coordinator

OVERVIEW

The Speech Project Coordinator is in charge of supporting and facilitating the Ghana Speech on Wheels – Dream Project. He or she will oversee the development, coordination, implementation, and follow-up of speech project activities while also assisting with other projects. This person is in charge of assisting and collaborating with the Ghana team, specifically the M&E Coordinator, to develop innovative and long-term solutions that expand access to speech care for Ghanaians.

The Project Coordinator’s role concerning Ghana University and its hospital partners is to coordinate contacts between Operation Smile (headquartered in Ghana and Sweden), affiliated universities, and public and private partners. Also, the Project Coordinator should have a thorough grasp of the parties involved, as well as the systems, programs, and personnel operating in and around the Speech on Wheels – Dream Project, to promote clarity, cooperation, and cohesiveness among all stakeholders.

The Project Coordinator will also endeavour to establish NGO ties and coordinate with government agencies to develop national patient databases and local self-sustaining programs. This function will stay adaptable and changing to meet Ghana’s demands.

General Summary of Duties:

The project coordinator will be responsible for:

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with the Operation Smile Ghana team to bring the Speech on Wheels – Dream Project to Ghana, incorporating more public and private stakeholders and partners.
  • Support for broader healthcare system evaluations in Ghana to ensure the integration of the Speech on Wheels – Dream Project, as well as how to plan and sequence new projects.
  • Work with the Ghana Office to meet project objectives, adhere to project terms and agreements, and implement project sustainability strategies.
  • Work in coordination with the Operation Smile Education Department and the Speech
  • Council to recruit and place international visiting lecturers, rotation staff members, and other placements in Ghana as needed.
  • Promote the development of comprehensive care components for Ghana by promoting the integration and cross-collaboration of cleft care professionals at both academic institutions and hospital partner sites.
  • Develop relationships with university and foundation partners to participate in research initiatives and ensure visibility of project effect and learnings.?
  • Coordinate and assist in the creation of training materials and curricula for speech therapy services, tailoring them to the local environment and needs.
  • Help foundations create local volunteer bases and provide ongoing education and training opportunities.
  • Help partner hospitals manage and maintain their equipment and supply chain to guarantee that patients receive efficient and high-quality care throughout the year.
  • Coordinate community-based training and outreach programs to improve patient care delivery. This covers logistics for patients, caregivers, and support staff.
  • Prepare and provide full programmatic reports on the Speech-on-Wheels initiative to appropriate authorities, such as the Ministry of Health, donors, and key stakeholders.
  • These reports should emphasize progress, difficulties, outcomes, and recommendations while maintaining transparency and alignment with project objectives and requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Ghana team to develop patient management systems that support longitudinal care delivery and outcome reporting.
  • Document and communicate lessons gained and best practices to improve program performance and contribute to the larger knowledge base.

Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Refine and strengthen the 5-year strategic plan for speech therapy initiatives as part of the larger country strategy, collaborating closely with each department to ensure its successful implementation.
  • Collaborate with Ghana’s Country Manager and Program Manager to establish University and NGO connections and expand collaboration opportunities.
  • Continuously seek more training, education, and collaborative opportunities with all partners to help strengthen local healthcare professional and volunteer teams.
  • Support proposal development and fundraising efforts in order to gain additional funding for the project’s continuation and scalability.
  • Provide strategic direction to the Ghana Country Office in identifying new and sustainable means to extending speech therapy programs and initiatives beyond the present financing cycle, so ensuring the project’s lifespan and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy and Policy Department, the Ministry of Health, and GHS to ensure that Speech Language Therapy services are available through NHIS and/or other sustainable channels.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Support and communicate with the Ghana national team, regional support team, and local partners during program development, execution, and follow-up.
  • Ensure that all parties engaged are aware of the Global Standards of Care and that safe, successful programming and facilitation are always prioritized.
  • Encourage and facilitate productive communication among Headquarters, the
  • Foundation, and the DREAM PROJECT teams.
  • Ensure clear communication with the Education Department while organizing, supporting, and implementing training events.

Business Operations

  • Collaborate with the Country Manager, Finance Manager, and Program Manager to create and supervise necessary budgets.
  • Support the creation and execution of training materials, policies, and processes.
  • Provide Operation Smile personnel with statistical and qualitative reports on pertinent data.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational rules, donor requirements, and local regulations during the project’s implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Planning and Implementation, Nonprofit Management, or a similar profession. A master’s degree in the discipline would be desirable.
  • Prior experience conducting such community-based rehabilitative care projects is extremely desirable.
  • Two or more years of program/project experience.
  • Work experience in an international NGO framework.
  • Work experience in the Ghanaian healthcare sector

Characteristics and Skills Required:

  • Excellent English communication, both oral and written.
  • Ability to speak at least two Ghanaian languages in project regions (Twi, Ewe, Dagbani)
  • Ability to be on-call (able to react to phone calls or e-mails after usual business hours).
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Approachable demeanour with the capacity to control stress and communicate effectively.
  • Must be a driven individual with experience leading, coordinating, and facilitating projects and teams.
  • Must be able to manage difficulties diplomatically, tactfully, and culturally sensitive.
