POSITION: Electrical / Automation Engineer 

Context/Scope

  • GGBL maintains two locations and distributes four types of beverages: stout, lager, RTD, and malt, as well as spirits. The company is Ghana’s largest brewer, accounting for around 75% of the market.
  • Ghana’s economy is predicted to grow at a mid- to high single-digit rate in a driven environment.
  • Consumers in this region anticipate high-quality products. There is also a growing middle class that is willing to try new things.
  • GGBL is undergoing major change, particularly in terms of accountability, quality maintenance standards, supply planning, cost reduction, and efficiency. In accordance with its goals, GGBL will develop its employees and foster an environment that attracts and maintains the best talent.
  • As the supply function, we will produce high-quality items in a safe environment at cost-effective rates, on schedule, and without fault.
  • Working with his technical team, the postholder is in charge of ensuring plant availability and equipment efficiency.

The purpose of the function

  • Work at the tier 1 level to provide Asset Care functional expertise throughout the area/site, leading the shift Asset Care Technicians and assisting the day-to-day asset care support staff in resolving complicated equipment issues.
  • Lead and advocate for effective governance in internal and external compliance (health and safety, quality, and environmental).
  • Continuous Improvement – responsible for specialty improvement activities.
  • Provide high-level specialist support to operations teams.
  • Proactively lead performance analysis, which promotes improvement activities to address poor performance patterns.
  • Lead the rollout of MMS Asset Care within your areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with Operating Equipment Manufacturers to accelerate problem-solving and increase plant availability.
  • Support the delivery of exceptional performance in all parts of the balanced scorecard (safety, quality, environment, asset care, delivery, efficiency, cost, and morale).

Key Accountabilities

  • Always ensure alignment with health and safety, environmental, and quality requirements, as well as compliance with maintenance regulatory criteria.
  • Lead the implementation of MMS asset care practices in the shift asset care teams and the support team.
  • Lead the expert support team to maximize equipment availability.
  • Ensure that the asset care team completes all scheduled specialist improvement activities.
  • Attend daily asset care review meetings and take relevant actions to provide support to course correct non-conformance.
  • Continuously drives for higher levels of performance through reviews of Autonomous Maintenance, Asset Care, and Focused Improvement.
  • Ensure efficient management of spare components.
  • Take control of the asset care budget and ensure that the most cost-effective options are implemented.
  • Develop team morale, reward exceptional performance, and take quick action to remediate underperformance as needed.
  • Model and coach your team on how to use problem-solving tools.
  • Lead improvement projects with specific knowledge and a DMAIC approach.
  • Participate in the daily operational review meetings to raise, debate, and follow up on persistent performance issues for root cause problem-solving and effective control.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering/HND Engineering.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in maintenance engineering in the food or beverage manufacturing industry.
  • A bearer of the GHIE or comparable recognized body will be useful.
  • Proven first-line management skills.
  • Computer Literate
  • Resource Management Skills
  • People management and motivating skills
  • Networking, influencing, and communication skills

Coaching talents and experience. Crucial

  • Ability to manage people’s performance, mentor, and establish a multidisciplinary team.
  • Detailed, thorough grasp and shown skill in all aspects of plants in this domain.
  • Proactive organized problem-solving skills gained via exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or Manex
  • Expert knowledge of RCPS, 5S, Setup Time Reduction, and Autonomous Maintenance
  • Basic financial awareness, knowledge of business drivers, and budgeting procedures.
  • Proficient at using typical business software (MS Office) and Diageo packages.
  • Project management abilities and expertise.
  • Track record of maintenance management: KPI improvement, planning efficiency, and consistency

Desirable

  • Good understanding of environmental legislation and standards.
  • Outstanding People Management Practices
  • Commercial knowledge of production and supply chain management. Financially aware: Capex, R&M.
  • Deep understanding of ME, packaging, lean techniques, process control, and RCM.
