New Job Opening at EduSpots Ghana

Job Title: Regional Coordinator

Company Profile

EduSpots is a registered charity in the UK and Ghana that connects, trains, and equips volunteer community educators to create transformative literacy and STEM opportunities through education spaces known as ‘Spots’, with a focus on female empowerment and environmental action. Together, we are building a movement of community-based changemakers.

Since 2016, we have worked extensively with over 250 local volunteers to support 50 communities in building and operating community-led and owned education spaces known as ‘Spots’, with a strategy to help them transition to our ‘Dream Spot Model’. We are building a paradigm for a community-led education environment with network interaction that could have global applicability.

Our 16-person Ghanaian team, who work entirely part-time and remotely, creates collaborative learning opportunities through our Ignite and Community Leadership in Development (CLEd) Programmes, which include leadership training for our EduLit, EduSTEM, EduKidz, and Ignite Girls clubs, as well as locally designed education projects, reaching over 15,000 students of all ages each year. Read our 2022 Impact Report here.

We are in an exciting stage in our development. We won the Tes International Award in 2018, and the Big Give Supporters’ Choice Award in 2022, and were just named a finalist for the Their World Scale-Up Innovation Prize. In 2021, our Founder was a finalist for The Varkey Foundation’s $1 million Global Teacher Prize, which was sponsored by UNESCO, in part because of her involvement in founding EduSpots.

We are thrilled about our future. Please visit www.eduspots.org for further details.

Job Description.

We are searching for three active, passionate, and organised regional coordinators to supervise clusters of Spots in Ghana’s Volta, Central/Western, and Northern regions as we grow our team at this exciting time.

  • Title: Regional Coordinator
  • Location: Remote.
  • Reports: the Head of Programmes
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Hours: Full-time

About this role

In this highly fulfilling and vital organizational job, the coordinators’ mentorship and systems support will enable their cluster of community-based volunteer ‘Catalysts’ to create the futures they want to see for their communities through a variety of education activities and programs. This will result in considerable effect, driven by community members themselves.

Candidates will be natural relationship builders who understand that putting humanity, humour, and genuine care at the heart of their interactions with volunteers will allow them to instill a lifelong passion for EduSpots’ vision while also developing the confidence and capabilities of their community-based Catalysts.

They will have exceptional operational and organizational abilities, as well as the ability to lead communities through in-person engagements and events, as well as gather, analyze, and respond to massive amounts of data. We are searching for people who have worked in a rural community setting, are confident in IT, finance, and operations, and have experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic, online environment.

Experience in education as a teacher or education programme coordinator may be advantageous for this post, but it is not required, as extensive training is provided to ensure the effective implementation of the organization’s desired goals.

Primary roles and responsibilities.

  • Provide effective mentorship assistance to all Spots, allowing volunteers (‘Catalysts’) to progress their Spots operationally toward the ‘Dream Spot Model’.
  • Encourage Catalysts in their region to participate in the Spot Lead strand by measuring and responding to Catalyst engagement in their area, as well as ensuring Catalysts feel supported and recognized for their efforts and accomplishments.
  • Assist Catalysts in their region in fully participating in the Catalyse Leadership Program, including the development and delivery of Catalyst Projects.
  • Help communities develop Spot committees and effectively recruit and manage volunteers.
  • Ensure that all Spots in your region provide ‘Keeping Spots Safe’ (safeguarding training) to learners, Catalysts, and community members, ensuring Spot compliance with our safeguarding policy and reporting any issues to safeguarding leads.
  • Support the Spot’s effective involvement in the strands for learners by assisting them in establishing EduKidz, DigiLit, Ignite Equity, and EcoSTEM clubs, as well as advancing the quality of educational delivery through observations during Spot visits.
  • Help communities establish fundraising and collaboration plans, as well as local communication tactics.
  • Conduct quarterly learning visits to Spots, interacting with Catalysts and stakeholders about programmes, operations, and safeguarding, and presenting full reports to management and the team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Operations to help Catalysts apply for, receive, and report on Spot Development funds.
  • Assist with monitoring and assessing Spot activities, including ensuring that engagement is effectively rolled out in the EduSpots app.
  • Support the organization of regional and national training events for catalysts.
  • Help the communications team provide compelling impact stories from Spots, Catalysts, and learners.
  • Observe, review, and analyze processes across EduSpots and Spots to find inefficiencies and recommend solutions to the team.

This job description will be evaluated annually and may be amended or modified at any time after consultation with the post holder. It is not a detailed definition of procedures and tasks, but rather outlines the role’s core requirements.
