POSITION: Head of Logistics

Context/Scope

GGBL maintains two locations in four beverage categories: stout, lager, RTD, and malt, as well as the manufacturing and distribution of spirits. The company is Ghana’s largest brewer, accounting for around 75% of the market.

Ghana’s economy is predicted to grow at a mid to high single-digit rate in a driven environment.

Consumers in this region anticipate high-quality products. There is also a growing middle class that is willing to try with new things.

GGBL is undergoing major change, particularly in terms of accountability, quality maintenance standards, supply planning, cost reduction, and efficiency. In accordance with its goals, GGBL will develop its employees and foster an environment that attracts and maintains the best talent.

As the supply function, we will produce high-quality items in a safe environment at cost-effective rates, on schedule and without faults.

Purpose of the role

The Head of logistical’ primary role is to oversee logistical activities within the market. Performance delivery occurs across the entire logistical network, either directly with the Diageo team or through third-party partners (as applicable to the market). The scope includes logistics for all goods, imports, modes of transportation, and storage places. The post holder will also be in charge of driving improvements in both effectiveness and efficiency across the local Logistics Network.

The post holder will be a member of the market Supply Chain Leadership Team, and as such, will play an important role in creating the market’s supply chain strategy while also overseeing specific logistical parts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Transportation and warehousing operations in the local/area network, either directly or indirectly controlled, with responsibility for execution with third-party service providers (warehouse and transportation activities) as needed. Ensure that suppliers’ contractual commitments are met and exceeded through a clearly established governance structure.
  • Develop strategic projects to produce significant improvements in COGS, service, and flexibility throughout the supply chain.
  • Formulate and implement long-term Demand and Supply Logistics capacity strategies.
  • Develop a sourcing plan with the procurement team for services/assets relevant to the market environment (e.g., Africa Returnable Glass and Crate Purchase).
  • Engage, lead, and develop our employees by unlocking their potential. Develop ‘world-class performance’ (in terms of quality, safety, service, and cost) and create prospects for market competitiveness. Develop a culture of constant development.
  • Manage budgets and construct annual operating plans in accordance with AOP objectives; supervise and prepare variance analysis reports for expense vs. budget.
  • Providing functional expertise and supporting the development of continuous improvement activities within 3PL and Diageo operations.
  • Drive and own key transport change and integration initiatives to offer coordinated and efficient transport solutions across the network.
  • Influencing internal and external Supply Chain collaborators to improve end-to-end processes, as Logistics is at the chain and is responsible for delivering Diageo goods to our consumers.
  • Implement standardised performance management across the network.
  • Work as part of a coordinated management team, managing expectations and highlighting concerns as they arise.
  • Oversees logistics controls for CARM and GAR.
  • Manages relationships with internal teams and external customers.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, and security requirements by local logistics staff and contractors.

Required Capabilities, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience as a logistics manager encompassing essential components of warehousing, transportation, customs clearance, logistics procurement, demand planning, and customer (OTC) in a manufacturing organisation.
  • Proven expertise leading and building logistics networks, suppliers, and skills for consumer packaged goods (CPG) firms. An in-depth grasp of supply chain operations and their relationships is also necessary.
  • Experience managing supplier, third-party, and outsourced logistics solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and align collaborators around strategies and gain support for delivering change within the organisation.
  • BSc, MSc, or comparable experience in a supply chain-related field
  • Capability to lead in situations where influence is more important than formal authority.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the whole supply chain and customer collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, combined with the capacity to actively interact at all levels of the business.
  • Understanding how cutting-edge technology may enable efficient logistical operations
