POSITION: Senior Programme Officer (SPO)
Job Summary
The Senior Programme Officer (SPO) for “At Scale” partner organizations is in charge of carrying out the AWDF Resourcing Strategy to strengthen and support African women’s and feminist organizations and movements. The function is in charge of ensuring the successful execution of organizational and departmental strategies by ensuring that our resourcing activity (grant making and accompaniment) is tailored to the needs of the specific kind of entity on which they are focused.
“At scale -Partners” refers to consortia, coalitions, or networks of varied movement organizations (individuals, NGOs, CBOs, and non-formal entities) who have a common geography, membership, and set of aims and work on a national, sub-regional, continental, or global scale.
Specific Duties
Relationship Management
- Contribute to fundraising and donor engagement efforts (communications, review meetings, consultations), as well as convert resourcing trends and learning into suitable donor communication.
- Contribute and/or engage in relevant projects, working groups, and collaborations to share expertise and achieve common goals in order to impact the donor community.
- Develop relationships with entities and funding coordinators to establish priorities for resource allocation and support.
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with coworkers is an essential component of communication and relationship management.
Monitoring the program and using what was learned
- Provide program and portfolio-level monitoring, impact, learning, and evaluation support to “At scale” partners’ organizations, guaranteeing diversity, voice, and representation.
- Lead on monitoring, evaluating, and learning about what we’re doing and how it’s making an impact, as well as responding to and establishing new places and possibilities for African women’s and feminist activist organisations.
- Provide quality feedback on donor proposals and reports, including assisting funded partners in documenting experiences and outcomes for reporting.
- Coordinate and meet internal and external reporting requirements (Board, donor, accountability, project reports, etc.).

Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Ability to apply feminist, social, and gender justice concepts to development and organizing in Africa.
- Experience working with and in coalitions, cross-regional involvement, and multi-stakeholder interests and dynamics.
- Expertise with theories such as intersectionality and social exclusion analysis.
- A proactive team member with a proven track record of meeting targets.
- Strong understanding of channels, trends, and practices related to resourcing work and fundraising.

- The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and people management skills, the ability to motivate and build an effective team, and experience with distance management. They also have strong interpersonal skills, personal integrity, and professional credibility, as well as experience building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders such as colleagues, donors, and CBOs.
- Confidence in explaining the effect of programming results to a diverse and knowledgeable audience.
- Excellent creative writing and editing capabilities
- Organization, planning, and management abilities, as well as the capacity to operate under tight deadlines.
- Research, analytical, advocacy, and movement-building talents
- Ability to use professional judgment and support and implement challenging decisions
- Excellent written and vocal communication skills, including English and/or French.
- Time management and capacity to meet deadlines.
- The ability to establish clear priorities, objectives, and task assignments, monitor progress against plans, and take appropriate action to ensure targets are fulfilled.
- Ability to facilitate talks with many stakeholders.
- High skill in MS Office and expertise in dealing with information management systems/databases, web apps, and tools.
- Budget planning and monitoring abilities
- Collaborate with others to resolve conflicts and build toward a common objective.
- Excellent IT and quantitative skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Working knowledge of other languages, such as
- French and Portuguese will be advantageous.
- Mature and successful dispute resolution.
Qualifications
- Applicants having a bachelor’s degree in gender studies or a related topic will be given preference, as will those with at least 6 years of professional experience in a similar function.
- The position requires at least six years of expertise in participatory and transformational feminist philanthropy.
- Experience working in or with various types of entities (e.g., emerging and non-traditional collectives, CBOs, NGOs, and/or strategic implementing partners) and/or feminist or women’s rights movements
- Experience working with or with non-traditional actors, collectives, and movements, as well as individual activists, emerging and non-traditional collectives, and/or feminist or women’s rights movements.
- Professional expertise in feminist organizing, including collaboration with African women’s and feminist organizations, as well as a thorough understanding of African feminist and women’s rights priorities, approaches, issues, and concerns.
- A thorough understanding of African women’s rights issues and concerns, as well as good analytical, writing, and editing skills and external representation abilities.
- AWDF will evaluate individuals who can demonstrate the required skills through experience.
Job Location
AWDF House, Accra, Ghana; or work remotely from any African country where you have a legal permission to work.

AWDF has a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of corruption, which is punishable by instant dismissal without benefits.
Salary Details:
Midpoint: USD 40,536 (annually plus benefits). In practice, AWDF only makes offers between the entry level and the midpoint of our wage structure.
